We're not that far away. Couple of things I took away:

1. Our offensive game plan was better than under Miles. Granted, Etling didn't execute well, but from a play calling standpoint, it was better. Elling missed a few easy passes that could have changed the game early.

2. The "late hit" was a huge call

3. We still tried to run into a brick wall sometimes, BUT it wasn't as bad as even 2011 @Bama. It was a better game plan

4. I watched '11 @Bama before this game, and I can't tell you how many wasted 5 yard penalties we got. It was typical Miles. We'd snap the ball with 2 seconds on the clock, and Bama would get a jump on the snap. It wasn't as bad in '16. We wasted a couple of timeouts, but Ed O was pissed. Miles might have been happy.

5. We lost this game in the 1st half

You could say the same thing about 14 and 15, just diff name on the jersey.

Those games were lost in the second half.

I was looking at the game from a scheme standpoint.

I accept Orgeron inherited Elling mid season and did the best he could under the circumstances.

From a scheme standpoint, I think the offensive game plan was better than under Miles.

We lost the game when Adams intercepted the ball on Bama's 35, and we got nothing out of it. Etling missed an easy pass on 2nd Dow that would have given us 1st down on their 20. We couldn't cash in. If we score a TD there, it changes the complexion of the game.

Howd you feel about the touchdown and the lack of any holding calls after reviewing it again?

My biased memory thinks theres no way in hell he shouldve scored if officiated correctly but am interested to hear yours

I rewatched it and we had 100 yards of offense.

The late hit was the biggest call of the game. We would have had Bama 3rd and 6 or so I think on their 30 or so. That call sparked their lone TD drive.

For all the hate Donte Jackson receives, he was all over the field. He got beat once, but he played a great game.

We lost in the 1st half. The short arm throw to Dural was huge off the Adams INT. The pass to Chark was also a monstrous play. Etling threw a good ball but it was slightly late. We'd have had 1st and 10 at their 15 yard line.

We need to hit SOME passes. It's absurd. That's why we're losing. Period. After watching the Bama game in '11, Miles stopped trying to throw the ball at all. It would open EVERYTHING UP if our offense could hit a few passes versus Bama. We don't need Brady throwing for 400, but they're stacking the box and daring us to hit passes.

It's that simple. If Etling had thrown for 200 yards, we win that game. Our defenses are not that far apart at all. But their scheme with the mobile Hurts gives them 5 rushing yards more easily than our scheme with Etling.

Ensminger was not a bad playcaller. He was better than Cam and it's not close to me. I'm excited about Canada after watching the game again.

I don't think Orgeron was content with the offense. I legit think Miles would have rambled on with his head in the sand about the offense. That's what I want. If there's an obvious problem, fix it.

ETA: Tre White is going to make a lot of money covering slot receivers in the NFL. He largely shut Calvin Ridley down

Ettling melted under their pass rush. At least now he has seen it before. We have been hurt by having guards play tackle positions and not having a true LT. Perhaps a different offense can scheme around this obstacle.

Agreed. He had pressure, but when we'd throw in neutral situations or early downs, he had time. He's got to hit those throws. The throw to Dural was 2nd down. Dural was open. He had time. He missed the throw.

The most pressure he had was 3rd and 8 type stuff.

Haha. Watching the game live isnt the same as watching it months removed when you're bored

You have accepted the loss at that point and can look at it more objectively

The Florida game was on the players. We should have won by 20 points.

He tends to pass the ball late. He needs to improve his timing when in the pocket.

Agreed. He's not perfect. But with an offseason and hopefully a huge improvement in scheme, I'm optimistic about him.

I was at the game and what recall is why keep Fournette in the backfield when he is clearly ineffective.

I honestly believe that had we given more snaps to Guice all other facets of our offense would have improved thereby increasing our chances for a win.

But its all history now...

I am also interested in seeing if some misdirection and a few shovel passes slows down their defense at all... I also thought for sure that we would huddle on the sideline near mid-field quietly insert Harris as a WR (maybe even change jersey for game) out of the huddle with another WR with third WR on other side and then put him in motion and toss like the jet sweep then have him chunk it long (his only really good pass)

My words when in regards to expectations for Ettling are - CAUTIOUS OPTIMISM. Healthy way to think.

The UF game was a fluke. It should have been 24-10 in the 4th quarter. You could argue UF should have scored one more TD based on my logic. Either way, that's 24-17 and we were at the 1 yard line at the end.

-Guice fumbled at the five
-Mishandled FG. We were at the 1 yard line.
-Couldn't score from the 1 at the end

This was one of Etling's best games. This wasn't a scheme issue or a coaching issue. This game was a fluke.

We should have lost one game last year to Bama. Two of the games were on Miles versus inferior opponents. Of the two that Ed O lost, one was just a better team and one was a fluke.
