Remember the Indy Bowl 1995?

That year LSU would square off against Mich St in the Indy Bowl and win convincingly. Big deal? LSU had not been in a bowl game for SEVEN years in a row before that. Thanks to Lou Tepper, the wheels would come off one more time for a couple years and LSU would miss bowls in 98 and 99.
Since then, LSU has been a winner. I don't ever want to go through that kind of horribleness again. Period. We've been lucky to have Saban and Miles. Each one bringing us home a Crystal Football. And many many memorable games, mostly wins.
I am glad Miles is here. I hope he doesn't leave for a long long time. You can post your lists of coaches that are "better." Find Speedy's Hat post. Compare those other coaches to that. You can post your lists of Miles' grevious and hand-wringing mistakes. They are mostly true. But we are truly fortunate to have him here.

Remind me again, what was Miles record as a head coach before he got to LSU? I'm quite certain that I can find many resumes across the country that matches that.

I was at that game. Saban was the coach of Mich State. He was dumb struck by the superior talent of LSU since he only got the leftovers from U. Mich.
Saban sent his agent to LSU to say he was interested in the job. The rest is history.
If LSU loses to Texas A.M. next week the Indy Bowl will make a big push for them. An LSU team with a 7-5 record would sell out the Indy Bowl because there is so much hunger here for LSU sports.
LSU baseball sells out here at Fair Ground Field. LSU basketball sells out at the Bossier Arena.

Yea...Im feelin ya.....don't want 7-5 but I live here in Shreveport as well and the Indy Bowl is 10 mins from the house.

Agreed, the early 90's were some dark days.
I remember how excited we were to go to Shreveport. 95 was a magical season (and my freshman year). Bring back the magic. Troy Twille.
The real change came with Mark Emmert and opening the LSU AD pocketbook. $1.2 million for a football coach??? I remember those arguments as well, when Saban was brought in. I personally loved the hire, but many were skeptical.
Fast forward to now, and that led us into the golden age of LSU football. Can Les keep it going in the new SECW landscape? He has so far. He needs to have as much fire in his 11th year as he had in his 1st.

If Miles worse record is 7 to 8 wins in a loaded SEC west this year, tons of experience then it's pretty good that Miles was able to get to the wins they have. The comeback against Wisconsin who was running at will, the clutch Fla win, beating Ole Miss' best team in a decade and hanging tough with Bama. What more can you ask this year? Miles knows his personnel better than anyone and Harris went to Auburn and was not ready. Would Harris have beat Ole Miss or Bama? Probably not. Should he have played against Ark? No question. Would it have made a difference? We'll never know.

Here's the cliff notes. LSU was terrible 20 years ago, so I'm good with being mediocre now (8-7 SEC record in the last two years). Keep in mind, we did not have the name recognition or facilities that we have now, 20 years ago. We have moved to the front of the line in the arms race, please stop using the we were terrible 20 years ago excuse to accept the mediocrity that our program has become.
I was at the 1995 Indy Bowl, but before that I was at the last game of the season against Arkansas when we dominated the Hogs 28-0 and celebrated like we won the SEC.

it's just like when a player screws up and gets kicked off the team or jilts us in recruiting, or leaves early, LSU is bigger than any one person, be it a player, coach, AD, whatever, we'll be just fine in the long run, our recent success is not entirely attributable to Saban, Miles, Skip, Alleva, or anyone else, and NO ONE is irreplaceable

Yea that game was a lot of fun.....one of my best bowl experiences despite the locale.

I agree I would hate being 7-5 as well but really ALL teams go trough this at one point. A 7-5 season if it happens was going to happen sooner or later. It happens to all great programs and coaches at one point in time.
