Im surprised at a lot of the answers... Think about the 2013 season: LSU won the West and Vanderbilt won the East, but the two teams didn't play each other until the SEC Championship.
LSU won - its hard to call Vandy SEC champs in that case.

I really wish there were no "regular season champs" and "tourney champs". I would like to go to a system where you carried your conference record into the tournament and whoever had the best record after the tournament was crowned SEC champs. That way the tournament would mean a lot more and could make or break your season.

That sounds like a cool idea.
I think you would need to remove a lot of teams from the tournament, though.
Maybe have 3 from the east and 3 from the west.

The trophey Florida received last Wednesday before their first SEC Ty game said "SEC Champions" on it. (That's when Slive always presents the SEC Champions trophey. Same in basketball.) The trophey we won in Hoover says "SEC Tournament Champions."

The only time I would prefer a conference tournament title instead of a regular season title would be if the only way to get into the NCAA tourney was by winning the conference tourney.

Easy...both
But regular season if you're making me choose one. Reg season is far more important and more indicative of an overall better baseball team.
That said, neither is enough to be lsu's coach for long by itself. We play for Omaha, and not just getting there
SEC baseball titles are great and all, but I'll take a 4th place SEC finish combined with a national title and/or CWS appearance every year over winning the conference every year and never making it to Omaha.

Regular Season Champ is always >>> Tourney Champ
That isn't to belittle winning the tourney though.

This. I wouldn't be upset if they got rid of the tournament.

We ARE the SEC champs.
Tourney >> regular season
Tourney >> regular season

Wrong. 30 games shows what kind of team you are more than 4 or 5 games does.

I would say regular season is more important for an SEC school, but not for a one bid conference. But to win the tournament means you are playing hot at the right time, and this year winning the tournament got LSU a National Seed. Overall, for LSU's case, I'd take the regular season.

Regular season is more important in baseball. But it's getting to where regular season doesn't mean as much in football. it still means a lot, but in 2011, it didn't mean shite. with the new playoff, It will mean even less. It just depends on the committee and how they vote. We shall see.

Wrong! That would be Florida.

Funny how they looked so upset watching the Tigers dogpile...

Well winning the SEC tourney almost every year has been pretty fun

And it means you're playing good ball at the right time. Maybe doesn't mean as much in the grand scheme as a regular season title, but it is very encouraging when entering regional play.
I think this. I'd prefer regular season, but baseball is a streaky sport. A team gets hot at the right time, they can do some damage. UCLA last year, case in point. A solid team all year, but they kicked it up a notch for the post season.
