They could set this up to have a winner out of the teams. I know it’s about reps and all. Vandy going home at 3-0 and the winner of this one will be 3-0. Or having a format to have a winner with RA or Runs scored would be pretty cool

Was honestly looking for Texas not to choke and LSU coming out only team at 3-0.

I was thinking about that earlier. How you could do 2 pods of 3 teams each, day 1 and day 2 are “pool play” and day 3 is 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3. Only problem is they make the day 3 schedule to fit the travel needs the best. It would suck for vandy fans if they got stuck with an 8pm Sunday game.

Having the team play before 25,000 people is a huge thing. Prepares them for Omaha should they get there in June.

This weekend is far more beneficial than three games against North Dakota State at home.

This type of setup is not designed to declare a winner.

We won that last tournament in Omaha, I’m good for now

Agree 100%. The amount of competition this weekend it’s a shame

It's fine as is.

It's the third weekend of the season, no need to make it anything more than a series of games at an MLB park. If you made it where future matchups were dependent on who you beat, you'd have coaches needlessly trying to push pitchers further than they need to be pushed at this stage of the season, for the sake of a meaningless trophy.

I mean you just name a winner, you don’t have to change your game plan for the weekend.

Agreed. Plus, it'd be weird to play a conference opponent in a non-conference game.

Wouldn’t a quasi regional/Omaha style weekend with a winning team also

Put yourself in Texas State or ULL's shoes, if they weren't guaranteed to play LSU, Vandy or Texas, they'd do whatever they can to make sure they get those RPI-boost matchups.

It's fine as is where every team is guaranteed three games against three different opponents.

You can still declare a winner based on record and “quality points” and make the above happen

Sure, just like was the case in Round Rock last year. But you're suggesting for a regional-type tournament.

That's dumb and unnecessary.

Not sure if this is aimed at Oregon State or not, but they did play 4 games @ Globe Life vs pretty decent competition already

He said one of the big draws was preparation for Omaha. I said do a regional style to better prepare for Omaha, if that’s the big draw.

I agree that that shouldn’t be done.

This isn’t soccer, runs allowed don’t matter in winning first or second place. This is also not a tournament.
