I've heard Tom Brady thrown around on this board many times but I hate comparing college players to all-time greats, especially a guy who is arguably the greatest NFL player ever. What are some more realistic pro comparisons for Burrow? And if you want to make an extremely high-level comparison like Brady or Brees explain why.

P.S. I love much Burrow as much as anyone and think he will have a great NFL career. But comparing someone to Tom Brady is like comparing a basketball player to Michael Jordan or LeBron. It is just unfair to put that kind of pressure on a kid to live up to that standard.

A little Joe Montana, Peyton Manning and Brees.

That sounds much more attainable than Brady. Thanks for the insight.

I’d say he’s more like Payton Manning with the athletic ability of Michael Vick with the investing savvy of Warren Buffet

Fine. Tom Brady if Tom Brady could run.

I think there's certainly a chance that he has a great career in the NFL and can one day be compared to those greats. However, I'll go with a more reasonable comparison of someone like Rich Gannon.

So why start this thread?

He's putting up all time great collegiate numbers and is going to go #1 overall. It's ok to compare him to other great talents.

He has similar traits to some all time greats. A comparison is not projecting he'll have an identical career.

Russell Wilson

Transfer QB
Accurate and mobile when needs to be but looks to throw the ball downfield.

That is why I said if you want to make a HOF comparison explain why. What about Burrow's game reminds people of Brady specifically?

Tony Romo is the best one I think. Similar mobility

He’s having a stellar season and will be a high draft pick. He has all the tools to be a very successful NFL QB and appears to have the drive and head on his shoulders that keeps many great college QBs from achieving that.

I’d say the play style comparisons to NFL greats is fair. His game is superb

I can actually see this comparison. Wilson is a little more mobile and Burrow is taller but they both have great pocket presence and ability to extend plays.

Alex Smith. #1 pick, but I think JB will be much better than a game manager.

That's who I think of as well. Burrow just isn't as turnover prone.
