So 8-2 going into the Bama game?

9 highest.

AU will be 8-4 best get season

Wisky will be 9-3 best get season

Ugly losses will affect us

Now 10-2 end of season?

Number 6 headed into the SECCG

20 to 22 - somewhere in that range - could be as low as 23.

Beat USM - we're ranked 18-20th

Depends on who else loses that week, frankly.

Beat OM soundly - we're ranked 12 -13th

Maybe - 13 or 14.

Beat Bama (1 td) - we're 5th with Bama being 6th

I think we're definitely in the Top 10, but we'll still have 2 losses. I'm not sure we can't win these 4 games and still be ranked behind Bama.

LSU wins out - 11-2 SEC champs - major bowl
Bama finishes regular season 11-1 and goes to playoffs - wins NC

I don't care if they win all by 1 point, they win the next four and they will be 7-2 and 5-0 with new coaching staff. #10 at worst.

LSU wins out and wins sec, and is undefeated with new coaching staff....they will be in playoffs. That is the type situation it was designed for....best 4 teams.

Ugly losses on the road against power 5 teams with good records, in close games, and under former head coach.....come on man.

In this day and age of the playoffs, I feel like the coaches and, especially, the AP are more inclined to vote how they really feel knowing that the playoff committee has to make the final decisions.

All the voters may not see all of LSUs games, but you can take it to the bank that they know the storyline behind LSU and Miles this season.

If LSU comes out and beats Florida handily, I think they sneak into the top 25. I don't think a win over USM will move them up much more because the voters will be waiting to see what happens against Ole Miss.

But if they beat Florida, USM, and then Ole Miss, I honestly don't think the voters will have any qualms vaulting the "new LSU" into the top 15 and maybe even top 10. Beat Bama, and I think they could be top 5.

Everyone loves a good drama each college football season, and what voter wouldn't want to be a part of the saga of Ed Orgeron's epic turn-around of the LSU team that fell from grace after being ranked #5 in the pre-season.

We are literally #26 right now.
A win over a top 25 team won't have us "sneaking into" the top 25.

It'll have us handily into it.

This isn't radical - we're just outside looking in now. We definitely get into the Top 25 with a win, I'm just not sure about top 20.

Overall, I agree - just depends on who loses that week.

Because I've seen crazier things, I won't say "impossible" - but this is too much purple and gold tinted sunglasses - we will still be a 2-loss team. Yes a run through the SEC-CG puts us in the playoffs, but I can't see #5 after Bama - that has us leapfrogging over a lot of 1-loss teams, although Bama is held in such high esteem, I'll agree that most will count that heavier than an ordinary win.

I understand where you're coming from, and I don't disagree. My point though is that we're no longer in the BCS era, so voters are no longer held in check by the fact that their vote will literally help decide who goes to the NCG (yes, I know the AP stopped being a part of the formula). As a result, ive seen a tendency for voters to "vote with their hearts" and not play by the conservative old guard rules of the BCS era (I.e. You don't move down unless you lose, etc.)

If LSU were to keep winning and beat Bama (assuming Bama is still undefeated #1), then no, I really don't think it's too far fetched for voters to say to themselves "yeah, LSU has 2 losses, but this obviously isn't the same LSU team that lost those 2 games."

I don't know what teams will still only have 1 loss by that point, but a voter would be hard-pressed to believe that a team who beat Ole Miss and Bama isn't better than a couple of them.

maybe top 5 is a tad optimistic, but somewhere from #6 to #9 after beating Bama I think is well within the realm of possibility.

They would work their way down each week. Depending on Bama's record, LSU likely gets to number 10.

LSU lost by 5 on the road, and by 2 at a neutral site. These losses look worse to our fans. In the grand scheme of things, a loss is a loss.

Furthermore, if LSU continues to look new and improved under Orgeron then I think that works in our favor.
