Look, I like the guy, played hs football with, graduated with him; I just didn't know you could get accepted into a law school program with that kind of charge.

The law profession chooses to screen applicants on the back end, meaning after they graduate law school. This is different than med school where it is much more difficult to get in on the front end. Law schools will gladly take your money for three years knowing damn well you won't be able to sit for the bar.

But in reality, 1 DUI won't prohibit him from being admitted to the bar. It would take much more than that.

Character and criminal records haven't been a factor in getting into law school for many decades. Tulane I know had a convicted murder a few years back, one of the Jena 6 got a full scholarship to U Washington Law school awhile back based upon his unique diversity, not academics.

The bar will not admit a felon. Period. You can get the degree though.

It could have before the 70's, character then played a significant role in admissions. But we are producing 3X as many law students as we did then and economics require the seats be filled.

Some people are so butt hurt. Do u even know if he is taking the bar? What if he just wants to be a certified sports agent? Mr Perfect you only want to congratulate a guy if he passed the bar because law school isn't hard? This guy went to law school after his NFL career. That takes a lot of will and discipline. It shows he was raised right. Having played against Blue most of my life, congrats my man. You earned this and nobody can take it away.

I've made no comment on the quality of SU Law Center, the odds of a minority SU grad passing the LA bar or the intentions of Randall Gay post graduation although he did say he was taking the bar in the article, and you would know that if you bothered to read the linked article.

I simply commented in response to the comments of others into the standards for admissions based upon character or criminal issues. The fact is they have been lowered over the past 50 years significantly.

Also it's an advocate article. They twist quotes for a living. Lol. I don't take anything they say for real life.

I don't think 1st offense dui is a felony though. Neither is public intoxication.

Besides, the guy that bumped this thread said he passed the bar. So all the know it alls trying to shite on him can shovel it.

"In the majority of states, a felony conviction does not necessarily preclude an applicant from admission to the state bar and obtaining a license to practice law. Before granting admission to its bar, each state will evaluate an applicant's character and fitness to practice law using its own set of rules and regulations. As of 2012, the following jurisdictions expressly bar an applicant with a felony conviction from bar admission: Mississippi, Missouri, Texas and Northern Mariana Islands. In all other states and territories, a felony conviction is not an automatic bar to admission so long as the applicant can prove current good moral character."

Good for him, he's a fine example of a guy taking advantage of his opportunities.
