I know that we only saw three plays on Saturday. But the defense looked more like that early 2000's aggressive LSU defense that we loved. In just three plays.

Unlike almost all other fans, A&M fans are insufferable online AND in person.

We took a step up in recruiting and a step back at the coordinator position. Chavis has his downfalls late in games but by all accounts he was a top 5 DC in college football. Hopefully Steele can step up but he is certainly a question mark.

The defense was awful in 2008. Chavis was a massive improvement. I don't get why so many people suddenly act like he can't coach. I'd be ecstatic if I were an a & m fan. Frankly, our fanbase seems like the delusional one in regard to the dc changes. The vast majority of people didn't want Steele and thought there was no way chavis would leave. Steele has a lot to live up to this year.

Agree with everything. We'll know more about Steele next Sat.

I ran into an Aggie that thought LSU was located in a swamp in the New Orleans area and had no realization that LSU had won two National Championships, played for another and won four SEC Championships since 2000. He did however know that "ya'll suck". I mean, it's Aggie. What do you expect?

For the most part TAMU fans think they are the kings of football although they have not won anything of significance for such a long time

this. they have a potentially damn good team this year but their offense isn't as good as it was when sumlin took over 3 yrs ago. why? they have downgraded at OL, TE, RB and they don't have JFF.

yes, their D is better this year. but their secondary is damn suspect and that is where LSU and other teams need to attack them. their LB's are average but they have an outstanding DL. they came up big against ASU but that game wasn't decided until late in the fourth.

While not great, it doesnt help when your qb is spotting every team points. What the guy was getting at was we werent as bad as tamu so we didnt need that much more improvement.

Besides, they have no where near the talent in the secondary we did in 2010 and 2011. there my not be another college football team ever that had that kind of talent in the same defensive backfield. Thats why we had so much success running his schemes. And imo was why he was a good hire for LSU. LA is loaded with athletes and tweeners, exactly what chavis wanted, never sacrifice speed for size. But then quite a few teams were able to just pound us. Auburn, bama, arkansas and UF were able to break our defense on occasions.

They also think you don't need female cheerleaders so there's that. A&M is the only fanbase that can make Alabama seem somewhat reasonable.

A&M is a cult. Don't engage them in hyptheticals about how great they are GOING to be. Just point out how bad they HAVE been.

Everyone's blowing aTm and Chavis right now because of the sack totals. When they face a team who's gonna run it down their throat Garrett and that other DE aren't going to do as well. PAC12 style of play catered exactly to the strength of their defense.

This is part of the swag talk lately. It is like getting sacks is new.

I refer to this article from last year I found a few weeks ago playing around:

2014 TXAM sacks

TxAM has had talent and sacks at the DE position just last year. This and Chavis scheme did a notch better than last year at this time. Seriously, AzSt was breaking in TWO new offensive tackles (both lost to injury I think). Their center is legit, but the two guards are average at best. One RB was out due to illness and the starting 3rd WR was out. It was a perfect storm for TxAM defense debut. If you studied this game just a bit before kick-off, it was an easy favor for the TX AM defense vs AZ ST offense. The question mark is the secondary. In a Chavis scheme, if you can control the pass rush..and the dime DB blitzing... then A Chavis' secondary better be damn good.

TX AM offense was a bit of a surprise. One QB looked lost. AZ ST was bring some serious different looks. Guess everyone will find out when they play another serious defense. It all sorta came together in the end..sorta.

Anyway, hats off to the Aggies. Similar start as last year. I think having film on this game and the next two rent-a-wins of sorts will help other teams. It is the same Chavis defense as before, just have to figure out which players are playing which role then adjust like they have always done.

LSU's historically good defensively. Chavis wasn't the first or the last.

What's going to happen to Chavis if it's determined that he was working for A & M while still legally employed with LSU, or if it's determined that he was a booster recruiting for A & M against NCAA regulations? A & M seems to be the new darling of the SEC, so I'm doubtful anything will come of this.

The list of late game disasters is endless.

No, it has an end. Theres maybe 6-7 games since Chavis arrived in 2009 out of 70-75 you can put on this "endless list".
I assure you the number of games where the defense was THE reason LSU won is much longer.
And the list of games that LSU lost because of a sputtering offense is probably the longest of the three.
