Rabalais is wrong; 2018 floor is 10

Love me some Scott Rabalais, but his August LSU prognosis is full of hot air...the floor is 10 wins, bowl game included. The ceiling 12 wins...read on.
Defense will keep us in every game, decide a few. All American defensive talent at two levels (GW, DW; three counting RL) underpinned by legit front seven depth and a strong secondary (even w/o KF, NCAA be damned) is compelling this year. This defense will be special.
FG kicking can’t be worse (I hope), and indications are that CT could be pretty darn good. QB play will be better this year no matter who starts...don’t mean this as a slight to DE, rather a nod to the very real handicap of not being able to take the top off the defense when it was repeatedly there (i.e. Bama game). I personally think it’ll be JB, plus LN in certain packages. O-line will be improved (yes, improved) and RB play sufficiently productive to take pressure off of QB and O-line (CEH has a good year, CC solid freshman campaign and LF more handy than we might expect).
However, the 10-win floor is more about chemistry than talent. We lost to Troy between the ears, not the sidelines. No offense to Troy, they were better than half of the SEC last year, just not the Tigers. Our most talented player was a drama filled distraction throughout the season, but especially so early on. Our second most talented player was injured earlier on. The absence of their first-round physical contribution, coupled with a lack of clear team leader), distracting coaching staff, and poor on field chemistry made for the very clear malaise of Syc, Moo St, and Troy games. The dysfunctional nature of CEO/CMC relationship was certainly a head wind, but we should have beaten Troy irrespective. Toss in a FG or two and we were at 10 wins last year. Moreover, re-look the Bama stats to find we accrued more 1st Downs, total yards, and TOP.
Ask yourself, are we better this year than last? The defense for sure, if only based on depth...but there’s much more to like about CDA’s fourth squad. I think the offense will be better too given that no matter who starts at QB, we will put over-the-top pressure on opposing secondaries complimented by legit deep threat receivers.
This year will be different. This year is about players who will demand more from each other by and through personal example. Look for FM, DW, RL, BF, GW, JG and AD to emerge as leaders...JB too.
The floor is 10...the ceiling 12-1, after SEC ‘ship. My bet: 11-2. And to be clear, the 2 losses does not include the gumps.

We lost to Troy because we only had a few DL dressed that night. And Danny Etling (the game manager) couldn’t make plays and neither could Brennan.
Hate when people bring Troy up. Saban and Bama lost to ULM way up there in Monroe. Kirby Smart and Georgia DAMN NEAR lost to Nicholls State down there in Thibodaux. shite happens, GET OVER IT!!

You ever listen to the press conferences? This dude asks the longest effing questions I've ever heard. It's a miracle when the coaches actually remember what he asked them. No wonder he's always the last reporter pecking away at SEC Media Days.

So O should get fired if he wins less than 10 games? Just making sure we’re on the same page.

Scott Rabalais thinks reducing the lanes on Gov't St to 2 lanes is a good idea

You know why people got over those games.
They each won their division the next year.
They won the conference the year after 2/3 of these game
Also neither of them came in having to prove they weren’t a shitty HC with a career losing record.
O isn’t in the same position either of them were after those games.
He needs to win for people to get over it, and if he doesn’t people shouldn’t be over it.

If he wins fewer than 10 games then that means there was obviously some unforseen misfortune that afflicted the team that was not his fault.
Whatever this is is probably the fault of Les Miles, the SEC headquarters, ESPN who's racist against Cajuns, Matt Canada, the fans or some combination of these culprits mentioned.

10 win floor is a stretch, even though the talent is there. 3 games against top 10 ranked (miami, UGA, Bama) teams alone is tough. throw in Florida and Auburn on the road and thats 5 games that could go south.
But I am very optimistic for this team, I love being the underdog going into the season, this LSU team is a going to be better than they are getting credit for.

Great post OP. I believe our strength will also be the WR. Expect alot of 6 and 7 yd curls and slants to set up short yardage situations and then hit them deep to keep the DB’s honest. Will be a completely different offense than last year.

So O deserves no blame for that loss?

I feel like you’re going to be really disappointed when we only win 8 and O still has a job.

The idea that 10 wins is the floor for this LSU team is simply comical.

Agree. Right now I'd rather be an optimist than a pessimist. After the Miami game I'll be a realist! To our Tigers, prepare and practice well. Play hard and be proud representing the Tiger nation! I'll always support the Tigers, no matter the record... Geaux Tigers!!!

I agree with most of that. But I think the floor is more like 8.
