Chris is the only legitimate lead off hitter on the team (for those ready to play at this level). Part of the reason he got the start this weekend is because Fraley struggled as lead off. Chris may end up batting .260-.270 but his high OBP will justify him staying there as long as he is given a legitimate chance. By that I mean, he should be able to work out of his first slump that all hitters get into throughout a season and not be sent to the bench for 2 months.

If Laird was the right choice, don't you think he would have been put there.. After all, he has been a full time starter for 3 years.

He has been put there in spots and has done well there.

You don't think a speedy slap hitter that takes pitches isn't a capable lead off hitter?

Both Laird and Stevenson are capable. Obviously it is not a good fit or either would be batting there. Stevenson more than Laird if you want honest opinion.

You know very little about baseball.

Stevenson has 9 strikeouts to 4 walks, Laird has 4 strikeouts to 9 walks. Laird also has a higher career OBP.

Stevie strikes out entirely too much. Better luck next time.

You took my comment out of context. I have not studied the stats. I was referring to both being slap hitters and I like Laird in the 2 hole.

With that being said, I do know that a lead off hitter should work counts and have a higher than average OBP. Batting average, RBI's, slugging percentage, are not as important.

Stevenson is not a slap hitter at all

Which is EXACTLY why Laird is a better lead off option than Stevenson.
