Peterson played a little bit of offense in his first two NFL seasons, running the ball three times and catching four passes. But this year, Arizona plans to give Peterson a more substantial role offensively.

quote:

Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer told the team’s website that there’s a “pretty big package” of plays for Peterson on offense. In today’s practice that included not only Peterson catching a deep ball from Palmer, but also Peterson throwing a pass to Larry Fitzgerald. Palmer believes Peterson could be a very good offensive player.

That's awesome to hear. Hopefully these trick packages aren't used against the Saints.

that's something I wish Les would've done with him as well.

Yes, but if Peterson would have gotten hurt playing offense people would be calling for Miles' head

I'm sure they thought about it, but also remember that Peterson had a weird case of muscle cramping for his first 2 seasons. Then it eased up a lot his final year. Now it's a non-issue.

Hope they don't wear him out. Should be exciting though.

this from my Kevin Minter Thread on PP7

quote:

Cornerback Patrick Peterson has already been to the Pro Bowl as a returner and as a cornerback. His timing and spacing in coverage has improved, allowing Peterson to better challenge routes. Watching Peterson work at receiver in camp, I don't see how Arians will resist using him on offense to some degree. Peterson appeared more natural in his route-running than some of the young receivers. I was standing with Keim, the GM, when Peterson thrilled the crowd with a reception in practice. Keim: "He is so natural. Watch him running routes, particularly stops and digs. You watch him drop his weight at 219 and accelerate out of the break, that's not what cornerbacks do. He can come out here and just run a route and you're just like, 'He looks like Percy Harvin running a route. How does he do that?' "

With the field position they'll get with PP and TM returning and then PP on offense plus TM always a threat to force a turnover on defense.. they could be special.

I've been ready for them to really use that wrinkle. It's also because they don't have a receiver outside of Fitz worth a shite, that they are even mentioning it.

Looks like both Peterson and Purifoy will be doing double duty this year.

Also, Tyrann Mathieu continues to make plays in camp, however...

quote:

But it wasn't all fun for Mathieu on Friday. Former college teammate and fellow defensive back Patrick Peterson lined up on offense and beat Mathieu deep on a long pass from Palmer.

"I think he's a little faster than me," Mathieu admitted with a smile. "He got me on that one, so hopefully (Saturday) I'll get him back."

I heard Les say once that they might should have used Peterson on offense as well.

I love peterson but lets not pretend like he could not barely handle kickoffs and defense. this isn't me ragging on peterson but to say "i wish miles would have done this" is silly. then, if he cramped up on a huge play y'all would be saying "miles should have kept him strictly for defense"...

It's crazy, they wanted him to do punt returns, defense, and offense when he had cramping problems dating back to high school days. Obviously it has gotten better since.

I saw that he won't be returning punts as much this year also, it might be the switch off with handling some offensive duties and the other part being Mathieu ain't too shabby in it himself.

I'll be there. Hopefully, he scores 8 td's, and Brees throws for 10.

lol at the miles gang in here claiming cramps is why Les mismanages talent. Miles couldn't even realize that PP was a better return man than a 300lb Chad Jones, let alone that he was the best return man in football in the past 10 years or so.

So if he can get 4 to 5 TD as a WR 1 or 2 punt/kick returns and pick off 6 passes maybe take 1 or two to the house hell maybe he will even run the ball a little bit.... Too early or is that Deion Sanders esq?

I saw him take an INT back for a TD during the spring game in 08 and thought... "ok we found our kickoff/PR"...

but no... it wasn't until two whole years later that he would get the chance to do special teams... I wish they would have realized he was a special talent in 2008 at ST...
