I have to believe LSU didn't fire its winningest coach who also won a title, to turn around and hire a dline coach with a losing record as a head coach in any capacity and a .28 winning percentage as a permanent head coach.

I have to believe that.

I used to believe that. Then I actually saw what happened once O became HC. Now I have to believe it would not be bad at all if O kept the position, retained most of the staff, and hired a top flight "x's and o's" Off Coord along the lines of Kiffin at Bama (not saying or hoping we go after Kiffin). Recruiting, current staff you want to keep, and business-wise points to O. There would be no big buyout clause to cover and you save on top-end coach pay. That money can then go back into pool for OC and facilities and operating/recruiting.

Herman with any success at LSU will be gone in 3-4 years, and likely Aranda in that same time or sooner.

Coach O with any success at LSU would go nowhere. And with stability (and substantial $$$), there is a better chance to retain Aranda (and potentially groom him for eventual HC).

I love O. Bunch of former Miles supporters on the coaching board. How. Oils you not like O for this job?

I see this scenario posted a lot. As I stated in another thread, if it takes an elite OC and DC for your HC to be successful is that really the coach you need? LSU won't always have elite OC's/DC's.

Whoever is coaching next year is going to be a great upgrade including if they end up settling for O.

IMO O would've needed needed to beat bama and win out. Even though he will win out, they have been in talks with other candidates reps so I believe the only way O keeps it is if they use a fall back plan when they can't come to terms with a top target coach, which I think they will.

If they fall back to O, certainly they would require he brings in a top oc going forward, and barring huge success would be an experience with a short shelf life.

If you want LSU to lose to Florida or the Aggies, then frick you. Acknowledging that the OP isn't advocating for this.

IMO, a true fan does not root for his/her team to lose. No one can predict the future. Even if you strongly believe that Jimbo is the best choice and O will be horrible, you do not know that with a high degree of certainty. If you think you do, you are likely suffering from overconfidence bias. What is true is that whomever LSU chooses, there will be no way to determine how the other choice(s) would've worked out.

Why are people so angry about other people being apprehensive about hiring O? Jesus, are you related to him or something?

It didn't sound any smarter in the other threads. A coach should always strive to surround himself with the best. O is putting up 40 points a game with a tight ends coach. You think you have a valid point but it's just retarded.

This mentality baffles me. This is pure speculation, and I guess you believe we should've passed on Saban too since he didn't stay here forever, right?

I don't think he's the same coach now that he was at ole miss at all. I just happen to think there are better coaches out there who we could get

Let him go to a smaller school and prove it. LSU isn't a proving ground

Obviously you haven't been an LSU fan for a significant amount of years.

A stint as an interim coach. There is a completely different set of obligations, expectations and a completely different level of pressure that goes with being the permanent head coach.
