Yep just like the BCS championship game. May have no cheering as they may not ever cross the 50.

This offense is much better. Running game has been unstoppable against 9 man boxes. Harris had thrown the ball well. We haven't exactly tried to throw it around much but haven't had to. WRs gotta catch the ball though.

I think we go for the long ball because we have a chance for a TD or PI call. Worst case scenario is an interception; in which case is as good as a punt.

That's risky, but actually possible considering once he studied Auburn he knew we could get away with a lot of read option. Miss State is the only game that we actually went out of our way to have a lot of different looks and that makes a lot of sense being the 1st game. In that case, I would imagine Florida at home to be the first time we really see something unique to spread their D out. We will probably take very few risks against South Carolina on the road.

The old 'hide-the-cards-until-we-really-need-to-show-them' trick, eh?

That secret playbook is so secret we haven't seen it since Miles was hired.

I remember encouraging myself with this thought one of Mett's years as QB. Sure enough, come the bama game, we saw some much more interesting (and effective) calls. It still was not enough but I was much more impressed with the play book.

That being said, our D has GOT to step it up. We had an impressive defense and I am concerned about these young fellas. I am concerned when we meet FL and aTm offenses that they will leak like a sieve. Let's hope Steele has a secret playbook, too... And the punter is holding back. And the special teams.

This. Regardless of the opponent, this game was an opportunity for the WR corps to show the coaches that they could execute and make plays. They blew it.

I don't know if it's a lack of focus or a lack of talent. But that was embarrassing.

Without the secret playbook, there is no hope. It's like the Bible of sports.

. What if Cam Cameron is just running a vanilla offense until we REALLY need to keep the opposing defenses guessing.

This seems a familiar refrain since 2009 for me. We're holding back things that never seem to happen.

On this team, who would you deem a go to receiver? If I was harris, I would work the middle with Jeter and Smith. His receivers are really iffy.

The answer is in the film study article in the Advocate. Dupre was 13 yards downfield, wide open, and Harris chose to throw to a triple-covered Dural. According to Dellinger(?) Harris repeatedly made the wrong choices.

tl;dr - Harris sucks. That's the hazard of playing a guy in the 17th game of his career. He'll get better.

Oh, and to those of you looking for a link, blow me.

I have no problem with the vanilla offense, as long as we get to see the chocolate offense occasionally.

modern this sort of run/pass ratio has not won a national title in the modern (BCS) era. that's why people are worried
we threw 15 times vs EMU not including the PI plays. What kind of ratio are you looking for?

Or a major bowl game or a conference championship or anything of any significance in the modern football era.

I was thinking of that as well. No roll out quick slants or bubble screens is just weird. If this is true... then I'm okay with the lackluster passing game until we really need to open up......BH has been accurate all season. OL need to get better at pass protection. WRs need to catch these passes

the old secret playbook is back

But to answer your question, no. There is no vanilla offense. The coaches are running what they think gives us the best chance to win. Obviously are personnel has not proven they can run short and intermediate routes.

Coach Cam beleives in the vertical game off of play action. Establish the run, then play action off of it, and throw deep to perhaps hit a big play, if not, keep the safeties honest for what they REALLY want to do which is run the ball.

What's the explanation for going vanilla against State then?

There weren't enough attempts to call that vanilla.

Easy answer:

Teams pull the safety up for run support. Our number 1 receiver better be able to beat man coverage on the fly route.

Travin didn't get much separation from the EMU corner

Exactly. Our WRs are dropping balls and not showing any aggression in terms of attacking the ball.
