Rewatching the game and for the first two TDs, Chaisson crashes and commits to the running back. Plumlee pulls the ball and is off to the races. Could have been an adjustment to the trap counter play they ran so well in the first half

He was the fastest player on the field hands down. I don’t care if someone else has a better 40 time, he has superior game speed.

Those were very uncharacteristic of an LSU def. I did love seeing Stevens in side lines gsitting with D and laying down the hammer. They scored again on long run after but at least we know Stevens in lb and dB leader.

Yep. We lost contain. Chaisson crashes down which allows the pulling guards to take out any linebackers and then a bad tackling angle plus a speedy little shite leads to a huge play.

Happened over and over again.

I’ll add our Dline not really busting a grape and getting pushed off the ball.

Hoping it was a hangover. Really thought we were improving. Most of last night was assignment and effort.

Stevens is the one who was out of position based on what I saw. Scheme was there, players did not execute. It happens. Quit being pussies.

He never had contain once. It was mind boggling to watch. Was it coaching or Chaisson going off script?

It was his job. If he doesn’t crash the gap between him and rest of line is big. Lbers flow to the outside.

It is like the old triple option responsibilities as a de. Tackles goes down you go down also. It tackle blocks you You have contain.

No way he was coached to crash down like that. You are playing with 10 defenders when you do that against an option team. First thing you are taught as the end defender in JV is to keep everything inside. It’s basic assignment football.

It just was a lack of discipline.

I was surprised we stayed in our base defense and seemingly made no adjustments while getting gashed like that. Rotate Delpit down to the box or something to change things up. He was getting beat staying deep anyway. Try something.

The fault for that second half belongs to Aranda. He made a mistake. He should have prepared the defense like he did when LSU played Georgia Southern. Cause Plumelee and those two running backs essentially are the same thing as a triple-option team. LSU was continuously out of position and undisciplined on defense for the entire second half of the game Saturday.

Hence, I blame Aranda for not preparing the defense correctly.

However, this game is nothing to be worried about or even to melt about. Cause there are no more Ole Miss's to play for the rest of the season. As this game is really an anomaly.

I believe the safety was responsible for outside contain because I’ve watched KC enough this year when he is responsible for contain he waits to make sure the qb doesn’t keep it. I believe some of those were the playcall by Dave

It was option Football. Hit the freaking QB EVERY damn play, ball in his hands or not.DB’s were as much to blame as anyone fir not being in position.

It was read option. Chaisson was crashing in on the running back, at least on a few of those plays.

There were also some counters where they had more blockers and outflanked us. Again, no push by the DL and linebackers late reading the play. Linebackers late late late.

By the time Plumlee gets passed the linebackers our safeties are SOL. He’s too damn quick if you don’t commit you’re too late.

I highly doubt we expected them to basically go triple option and thusly did not prepare for that. You also don’t expect it from a team who’s never done anything like that before when they are down by 28 points. It was puzzling why we never loaded the box though.

Could you please be more specific? I think you’re talking about the Ole Miss QB, but can’t be sure because you were too lazy to type out the name as it appears on his birth certificate.

The back side guard and tackle both false pulled. Chaisson crashed down. The safety was on the hash. He wasn’t 7-1. QB pulled it. No one was there. Not sure who’s responsibility it was? I’m sure they will get that fixed. Good play call on that one. For starters, I don’t like the free on the hash. I’d prefer him 7-1 off the tackle.

May have been the plan, but adjustments should have been made to shadow Plumlee, no matter what, period.

The RB may have- ok, definitely would have- gotten some yards, but Plumlee was by every measure the bigger danger, and the legit home run threat every time he touched the ball. Shutting him down would have stalled out many of their drives or at least made them burn much more clock, and simultaneously killed the momentum and energy that Plumlee's big plays kept fostering.

As a whole, our "contain" was a monumental fail for 75% of the game.
