There's many things to take into consideration about being a successful starting quarterback poor offensive line play, no running game, and lack of talent and athleticism at the wide receiver and tight end position. If Danny gets good blocking and he's not under pressure on almost every play. He is going to be a totally different quarterback than he was at Purdue. I'm not saying he's going to be Drew Brees but if he gets protection, from what I seen Saturday night he has enough skills to get our skill players the ball to make plays which is going to open up the defense for the best running back in college football to run

If he can be Jay Coker or Brandon Allen, that would be magnificent. At this point, though, I don't think we have enough information to determine if he can. A consistent performance this weekend would go a long way to us knowing what his ceiling could be.

Not to mention he was a freshman. All we need is someone to distribute the ball to the bus load of play makers. I worry about Oline play but if they play above avg he's just elusive enough to get the job done

I think Danny is type of quarterback LSU has been missing for a while. He's not Peyton Manning or Drew Brees l, but he is good enough to get the ball to our skill players with accuracy and that can get real scary

That's like saying Jeremy Hill couldn't start for Bama. I remember Nick Saban saying "sorry Jeremy, we just didn't have room for you here at Alabama." Nick Saban is such a God that Nick Saban thought he could have had Jeremy Hill if Nick Saban so wanted Jeremy Hill. Saban need be brought down to earth, is anyone gonna do it.

How about we just watch him play. He moves the ball then great, he doesn't then oh well.

Nothing in the past matters for Etling or Harris this season. Let's put whoever gives this team the best chance to win this season on the field.

It might not even be the same guy every week. I'm glad we have options

This isn't the narrative on Etling. Most people are pretty supportive.

There was an article i read from the purdue site yesterday saying he was thrown to the wolves as freshman and forced to start when he wasnt ready. They actually said given the situation he wasnt bad. I believe this experience may help him in dealing with the current situation at LSU. He will not be asked to carry the load. He will be ask to do manageable things like complete some passes maybe throw for 180 yards and complete say 60-65%(say 13-20) of his passes with maybe two touchdowns(running or passing). At purdue in order to stay in games he had to throw for 400 yards a game with no running game just to stay in ball games. he will not be asked to do that here.I'm hoping he can do this or should i say i'm hoping Les will let him do this.

Different offensive schemes than what is run at LSU. Those players were put into a position to succeed.

We as LSU fans have been through so many bad QB's that we think having a serviceable one is not the norm but it is. It's not difficult to have a QB that can just get it to the playmakers. We see it all over the country. That's all we need and I really think Etling is that guy judging by that lone quarter of play. He was very comfortable and smart in the pocket. I think we all had blind faith in Harris to get it done this year since we never actually saw him be comfortable and accurate in the pocket like we have Etling. Now we have something to go off of and I have confidence in the guy. Lets go get this SEC championship boys!!

So how did he throw for so many yards at Purdue if he didn't start at Purdue?

Did he get those mediocre stats on a decent team or on a crap team where good stats were not realistic?

We goin' to the ship!

I don't know how. It's a systemic problem that rears its ugly head year after year.

Exactly, but it's been so long since we had that we started to talk like it's our goal.

Plenty of good teams have that. I would like our goal to be having a QB that, When someone shuts down our running game or figures out our defense, can put the team on his back and go out there and win one.

Don't let Les lower the bar to the point where we are clamoring for mediocre QB play.
