Players Owe LSU Nothing? Long!

It really angers me when some of our posters who are commenting on players' decisions to leave early state that the players owe nothing to LSU; this is the type of garbage that should be banned by the administrators. These kids are given free educations, free rooms, free meals (state of the art nutrition center for athletes), etc. They are coached, they are put in weight programs, they are given tutors, their injuries are taken care of, etc. I paid my own damn way through LSU including dorm and meals. I ate in Pentagon. I didn't get any tutoring. I would have given my right eye to play football for , not at, LSU. I graduated from LSU, and I love LSU. I ask nothing of LSU and owe it quite a bit. I am tired of hearing the same old bull.

How much money did you generate for the university while you were here?

You went right where I knew most people would go--the money. If it is all about the money that the players (in your opinion) make for the university then why don't we just go with minor league football? Many of these players would be relieved that they don't have to go to some sort of class. The players could earn money right out of high school. My dad played minor league ball, not a great life. These guys should get down on their knees and thank God for LSU. Without it where would most of them be?

If there were no college football?

I is confused. Is this related to coaching changes?

If they are good enough to leave early then they have already repaid the "debt" they owe the school. I've always believed the purpose of a university is to bring in young people and prepare them to have a successful life. You paid your way through college with blood, sweat and tears which is admirable but don't make that the one size fits all formula for a successful college experience. These players have roughly 3-10 years to make the kind of money the nfl offers. Why would anyone ridicule a young man trying to maximize this time window. They can always go back to college.

Much like boxers, football players only have so many hits their bodies can take.
Better to be getting paid to take those hits.
Sorry, any player that go make money now is a moron if he stays in school.

Well maybe if you weren't a frickin' moron you would've gotten a scholarship.

1. Most probably don't care about the education. Cardale Jones was right, most don't go to "play school", they go to play football. That is why I think football should be a major
2. If they were recruited to LSU, they were recruited elsewhere. They could've went anywhere, and they chose LSU.
ETA: When I posted this, this thread was on the Coaching Changes board. I know not to post on the Tiger rant.

At some point in history colleges decided that it was beneficial for them to offer all of the services you listed in exchange for young men agreeing to play football for their school. Do you think they did so just to be benevolent? If so, there would be no emphasis in bringing in the best players to win on the field. They would just bring in people regardless of on field athletic ability.
It is a quid-pro-quo arrangement. The school agrees to provide all of the services for free in return for the financial benefits that come with a winning athletic program (i.e. money and exposure to the university). The players don't "owe" LSU anything other than the services each agreed to provide one another. LSU doesn't continue to owe tuition, room, board, meals etc to a guy if he decides to leave college prior to the expiration of his eligibility. Likewise, the player doesn't continue to owe LSU his services as a player if he decides to leave early.
You as a fan are owed nothing other than the opportunity to watch the athletes compete. Or simply put, you as a fan aren't "owed" shite. If you don't like the product, don't "purchase" it. I love how fans think they are entitled to anything other than the ability to purchase admission to a game at a set price

So do you fault the kid who gets a full ride to LSU for science, math, etc and then finishes early to go to grad school somewhere? I suppose you feel Mark Zuckerberg owes Harvard something as well for creating Facebook when he was there on a scholarship and not finishing his degree.

NFL? No, not allowed.
CFL? Will not ever be heard from again. Btw, the average salary is $80K. Get your degree and you can do that without all the medical bills.
Arena? None of these guys aspire to play there.
They owe LSU nothing, but they do leave something for themselves on the table when they leave early. That's what always baffles me. "The race is not to the swift".

Did you get any long term health insurance when you graduated.
They don't either.
They don't either.

Missed my point entirely. The statement was applied to the Arena league. If the average salary is $80K, it's not worth it to leave early for that. I'd rather get my degree and be able to walk for $80k rather than limp and deal with headaches for the rest of my life.
Btw, I had a job before I graduated so I did have health insurance.
And some of these guys could get insurance policies paid for by the university in case they get injured. They should try negotiating one if one is not being offered.

Most of you are missing the point. I do not blame a kid who is going to be a high pick for leaving early, but these players should respect LSU for giving them the opportunity. I wonder how many of our ex-players even contribute a nickel to LSU. The only person I know of who makes substantial donations and constantly shows his love for LSU is Shaq. If it's truly about money and looking out for yourself then let's get rid of all the players who can't cut the mustard after one year; people aren't paying to see them. Let's revoke scholarships for guys who get injured, because they are no longer producing revenue, right. I am not totally against people leaving early; I am against those of you who say that LSU is should be nothing to these athletes when they decide to leave.

Player bleeds while LSU makes money.
Fan gets drunk while LSU makes money.
From the bottom of my heart, GO frick YOURSELF.

They owe the school the best student athlete effort they can manage. And that's it.
