Obviously we all felt that he was neutered during the Florida State game when he wasn't put in position to make the plays (dropping back in coverage a lot) that we saw him make last year when he was edge rushing and blitzing a lot. What's your thoughts on how he was used against Miss St?

Sorry if Germans, this is the first I've been on TD and didn't see any threads the past couple of pages.

We're definitely getting better at playing to his strengths.

Would love to hear from someone who understands the Xs and Os, and how they feel about the progression of his utilization over the last 3 games.

I feel like they were worried about the FSU qb mobility. But I’m hindsight they should have just blitzed him all night

He was and I'll never understand it after having all summer to prep for this one....

That said, at least the coaching staff didn't stick with it.

I'm not an expert of X's and O's but it seems like we are using him as a nickle LBer a lot of the time and lining him up over the slot WR a lot. The pros of this is it basically wipes away any chance for the offense to run bubble screens and/or quick game to that side of the field cuz Perk will obviously blow it up. The cons are that it limits the coverages that we can run a bit because you don't want a LBer one on one with a WR.

Then in passing situations we bring him in to rush or spy and he's a beast at that.

I think putting perc pressure on that QB would have definitely helped our cause for sure. I didn't really buy the excuse that CBK gave us at the end of the game.

We learned alot from that game, on both sides of the ball.
We'll do it better on 1 Jan 24 when we play FSU again...

Would love to see him used exactly like the Cowboys use Micah Parsons!

The development of Weeks at LB has made it easier to move Perkins back to where he was. I had no problem with them trying him at ILB but thought they should have waited till Grambling game to start that experiment. But I don't think it would have won the game for us. A lot of other things went wrong that contributed to that loss. Most of it may have been corrected although probably won't know for sure till Ole Miss and AL game.

Micah Parsons is 6’3” 245. Perkins is 6’0” 220. He is built nothing at all like Parsons. He is not big enough to line up on the edge all game. Good running teams will run right at him.

He did actually line up on the edge against Florida State 6 or 7 times and got good pressure. The problem was their 6th year QB recognized it and got rid of the ball each time before he could get home. And they had the OL and RB to run right at him if he’d just stayed there at the Jack. It was a bad match up for us. I do agree that the emergence of Weeks and Penn at LB, and Harris and Sam at CB and S respectively, has made it easier for House to get more creative with Perkins. Assuming no more injuries, we’d be in a much better position to handle their offense if we were to match up with them in the playoffs.

They had Perkins spend alot of snaps spying on Jordan Travis. Where I got really frustrated with the coaching is they continued to use him as a spy even when it became really obvious that Travis was not looking to run. Travis did a great job of making throws from the pocket, and when he did scramble is was behind the line of scrimmage. I kept waiting for the staff to adjust and have Perkins rush the qb more, but it only happened a few times. It was truly a bad coaching job by House.

I’m glad they adjusted but it’s kind of like a much lower stakes version of 01/09/12. Staff had a ton of time to prepare, came out with an overall somewhat lazy gameplan, and never adjusted despite the other team having a gameplan that completely neutralizes your gameplan. I like BK and Matt House but I’ll probably always be a little annoyed at how bad the coaching was for Florida State.

Well, he explained why he was bringing it up and also stated that he didn’t see anything about it on the first couple of pages.

Secondly, shut up noob.

he was really good spying against some teams last year. Had some huge plays vs Alabama and Arkansas why playing spy.

I think we did way too much of that vs FSU but they also didn a great job mixing Run and Pass and the WB did a great job getting the ball out

He wasn’t getting any depth in the FSU game and it allowed their Olinemen to get on him. Was maybe a little overzealous but he’s an outstanding spy and I’m sure coaches got that corrected.
