Shut down LSU and he will be the most unpopular person in the history of Louisiana. Best way to kill the states moral is taking away one thing (LSU Football) that brings us all together. Terrible scare tactic on his part.

Vitter was investigated by the Senate Ethics Committee for brazenly and openly attempting to bribe a cabinet member. That ain't a partisan charge.

Louisiana continues to solidify itself as a backwater with no visionary leadership. Thank God for Louisiana is going to be Mississippi's motto now. Sad.

College football is fine. LSU in general is fcked though. This has been in the works for 4 plus years and anyone with half of a brain could see this coming.

Totally not needed. Driving home tonight, I was listening to 870am and the man talking about this had smart non-hurtful cuts in his plan. I DO NOT remember his name, I missed it,but he was good. I'll look in the Advocate tomorrow to see if his cuts plan is in it. It was very smart with no cuts to LSU football.
-------------------------------------------------------------
You heard State Treasurer John Kennedy. He's had a laundry list of cost saving ideas for years, but they never seem to go anywhere. Probably because everyone in the legislature is busy protecting their slice of the pie.

Kennedy always sounds great, but remember this. He's running for Vitter's US Senate seat in a statewide election where being a Republican/conservative is a distinct advantage (despite the fact a Democrat just got elected Governor). Kennedy was using his rebuttal to JBE's address as a political stump speech.

Also, at no point did JBE say LSU football would be shutdown directly due to budget cuts. He said that if state universities were forced to close before the end of the semester, students would receive "incompletes", which would likely make players ineligible at football programs statewide.

It'll never happen, and not just because of football, but it certainly caught the attention of plenty of people.

The whole economy is a house of cards casino now. Not long before it crumbles down making 2008 look tame. The fabric of society seems to be unraveling.

Not really. Football will be fine as has been pointed out over and over already.

Did you know that they don't take the campus tour groups at LSU into the library because it's a rotten shite hole?

That's pretty sad.

Yes, that's an example of what ails us. The state currently receives a negative revenue stream from corporate taxes. And before everyone jumps on the "don't tax small businesses argument," business tax revenue is negative because of large corporations, not small businesses (who don't receive tax benefits proportionate to large corporations due to the disparity of lobbying power they have).

Really good chance of a world wide recession this year. It will get worse before it gets better.
