That's the whole reasoning for playing the first game.

Skip started it years ago. He said if anyone had to play late into the night he wanted it to be his opponent for the next day.

The day game is a pretty big tradition. It was weird playing at night in 2012.

As d1baseball.com put it after seeing Missouri State situation: "if coaches really wanted to maximize their home field advantage, they should do what LSU does and play the first game of the day. If they can handle the impact on the turnstiles, there is no doubt regarding the advantage this provides."

Playing that first game has tons of advantages and I would be pissed if I had a coach that didn't elect to play that game.

Well Missouri State can't play in the afternoon on Friday because they can't get 8,000 fans to the game at that time. LSU plays in the afternoon for a few reasons. One of them being they're one of the only schools in the country who can get their fans to pack the park at any time.

PM, Smoke, Bertman all played the early game, except for that one year CPM chose the night game. Of course its the smart thing to do at LSU, you'll get tons of fans to show either way.

My issue with the current schedule, is they leave almost no contingency for rain delays.
For example, tonight's game is scheduled for 8pm. Any lengthy type of delay, and we can't play tonight.
They need to adjust this to something like 1pm and 6pm starts.
Its fine to keep the games later on friday, people are getting off work. But on saturday and sunday, start time should be moved up a couple hours.

Makes sense, but not in a world of tv coverage, unfortunately.

Skip was quoted in today's Advocate as saying that the other reason was he wanted to attract more fans to the other game. His rational being that some LSU fans would stay late to watch it as opposed to coming hrs early to watch another game in the heat.Reading between the lines perhaps, but that sounds like a money making decision.
