between Von Rosenburg, Colvin, and Heathcott there are three pitchers and two outfielders. They signed one pitcher and one outfielder from LSUE, they will both be sophs, and the pitcher was actually committed to come next year, he just bumped it up a year.

Tell 'em Coach, we are LSU. We have other top players wanting to come here. If MLB and the agents want to play the games down to the wire, they can do it w/o the leverage that they may go to school. It sets a good precedent for the future.

As someone mentioned earlier... If we say that to Von Rosenberg.. his agent gets jacked around and the Pirates low ball him. Do you really think Manieri will say no to him??? Three years of a potentially dominating starter? I think not.

In addition to this, I doubt Manieri can even deny him if he wants to. When the NCAA changed the rules prior to 2008 it mandated that all scholorship athletes in baseball recieve a minimum of 33% and sit a year if they transfer. If Manieri wants to tell Colvin/Heathcott/von Rosenberg that that they are no longer welcome- 1-They'd have a grievence with the school/NCAA 2-He'd have to release them from their scholorships allowing them to enroll this year at say... Tulane, Ole Miss, Texas. Not to mention give negative recruiting ammo to anyone who wants to use it in the future.

I understand why Manieri took this position, and it is unfair to other kids who want to play for LSU or wherever but are waiting for these draftees to make up their minds. But the fact of the matter is that for the top 100 HS players MLB>NCAA and they will always entertain the option of a six figure deal if offered.

I think the official deadline is August 15th, but does Mainieri have his own deadline?

Official is 17th. Manieri said he wants to know before then so that he can replace their spots if they decide to leave.
