Good call or bad call that worked?

He's got one of the better approaches/"eyes" on the team. Had no problem with it. It's not his pitch, he doesn't swing. Good call.

ETA: A more interesting question may be "should PM have fought harder for Freeman when he was called out on a ball that hit him?"

Good call. Just need a sac fly and know you are going to get something to handle. Plus Watson been striking out a lot lately

He's been swinging it pretty well the last couple of weeks.

Yes... but that was expected that he didn't.

When is the last time Paul has been ejected from a game?

pap getting the green light on 3-0 is a damn good idea. he sucks at curve balls anyway so a fastball is what he needs; and it worked.

yes, yes, YES!!! PM doesn't fight for anything these says; the best he does is go out there, mouth off and then immediately accept what the ump says, turn around and heads back to the dugout.

I was praying they would let him swing. Pap is fine hitting fastballs down the middle.

The fact he pulled a grounder was worrisome, I just wanted a fly ball to score the runner at third.

Not really, it was solid contact and it to the right side. It was a fine piece of hitting.

I was ok with 3-0 green light but I thought he should have bunted Romero with 0 outs and Lil sweet in first.

Not ok for Pap but 3-0 is a good count to swing away 3-1 isn't.

Absofrickinglutely

PM should have gotten tossed right there.

Terrible call.

If it wouldn't have worked then the entire rant would have been in an uproar about how bad of a coach PM is.

Pap had himself a great series. You won't hear about that on this board though.

If Pap is a good fastball hitter, then it's an ok call BUT he's hitting at a .214 clip I think? If first base had been open, then I'd agree (I think Dup was on first?). It worked out though so gutsy call. If we're going to get on PM about the bad, then we can say kudos to trusting his starting catcher especially if he has the best eye on the team as ell alluded (I'd debate that maybe). I do know Pap prob felt awesome bc after the ump replacement, the calls were a little inconsistent.

As to PM arguing, he's been heated before, but I don't think in a tied game where we really needed the sweep is when you get thrown out. You argue, make your point, and move on (he wouldn't have been around to let Pap swing away at 3-0 possibly?) If the ump isn't going to change the call, don't make him mad enough to change the strike zone (I've seen that happen). I had a coach one time who didn't argue much with the umpires, but would come to the dugout and simply say "well, whatcha gonna do about it next time...".

No coach goes ballistic & gets tossed in an extra inning game that is so meaningful to the conference standings. And no one here has a clue as to what the ump told CPM. Mabe whatever he said was the reason? In addition to the reasoning stated here, that Pap would get a fastball on a 3-0 count, not a curve ball, CPM was quoted as saying "the pitcher had one of the best curve balls he had ever seen & that I felt that even had Pap gotten walked, loading the bases, our best shot was still sitting on a fast ball we knew was coming". Point being, CPM does not just stand there in the dugout doing nothing like so many haters accuse him of doing.

I've been a huge Pap critic, but he's been doing very well lately. I can only remember one at bat this whole series where I face palmed.

That's Maneri... play low percentage baseball and hope for the big reward. This time he lucked up and got the big reward. The next 99 times probably not.

So you're saying 1% of time, a batter will get a hit on a 3-0 count? I'd argue that number approaches 50% if it's a meatball.
