Our fans complete overvalue our Program (Crean related)

The fans that want Crean, and think he would be successful here, completely overvalue what LSU is in basketball.
In the last 6 years (I dont count Creans first 3 seasons against him), he has accomplished this:
Made the tourney 4/6 times, with a few sweet 16 runs
That is the exact expectations we have, and should have, at LSU. Make the tourney every 2/3 years with our "deep runs" being sweet 16 performances.
So, to expect Crean to have that success here, one would logically have to beleive IU and LSU have the same resources to be successful.
Well, lets take a look at those resources for those 6 seasons Crean had "LSU style expectations"
ESPN top 100 recruits for 2012-2016
State of Indiana- 21
State of Louisiana- 9
Program Success since 1990
Championship game appearances
LSU- 0
IU- 1
Final fours
LSU-1
IU- 2
Elite 8
LSU-1
IU- 3
Sweet 16
LSU-2
IU-8
Tournament Appearances
LSU-10
IU-21
So double the final fours, 3x the elite 8s, 4x the sweet 16s, and 2x as many tournamanet appearances
So, how can our fanbase think Crean will have the same results here at LSU that he did at IU?
His results will natural trend down, and he will be fired in 5 years.

I'm not sure that I want Crean in BR

Crean can keep on moving. No thanks

You make good points.
Wouldn't this be countered by the fact that the level of competition in the SEC is dramatically lower?
In theory there should exist an "easier" path to the tournament here.
I think I'd take consistent tourney appearances over what we have now.

Please explain how 2 final fours are 4 times as many finals fours as lsu's 1 final four.
Or were you not talking 1990-present in that sentence?

It is supposed to be 4x the sweet 16s
Look how at the beginning of the sentence, i say double the final 4s......
It was clear I mean sweet 16s, as I progressed from final 4, to elite 8 etc
But thanks for being a dick

So by this logic are you looking for someone to be hired that is much more successful in their current role, so when you devalue their results based on being at LSU (with the lower # of recruits, less history, etc.), he could make the tourney 2/3 years?

I don't see why some fans are going gaga over a coach that just got fired. I would much rather have a coach, even from a smaller mid-major, with a winning record that could come in and bring some positive expectations back into the program. But, we are depending on Alleva here, so the fan's expectations are significantly lowered.

So, in essence, you are saying Crean isn't good enough to have success at a school like LSU...and that his success was a function of being at Indiana with its built in advantages?

1- He'll be competing in a weaker conference.
2- He'll be in an athletic department that makes much more money overall, although there's no telling how much of that would be spent on basketball.
3- He won't have to worry about getting fired for producing the results he did at IU.

I have a friend who is a long-time Indiana fan - watches every game every year. He knows basketball - played in high school and some college.
He HATES Crean - says we should not hire him and he is a poor coach. Says his teams lack fundamentals and discipline and often time lose focus and motivation.
Sound familiar? Seems like Crean would be Les Miles all over again - may achieve some level of success but would frustrate with inability to fulfill potential and periodic disappointing failure.

Not sure this is really a difference maker. Wasn't part of the reason Crean was fired was because of the last 14 ESPN top 100 recruits from Indiana, he only signed 1?
My point being, that just because the state of Indiana had more Top 100 recruits, doesn't mean Crean had most of those on his rosters.

Our fans overvalue the type of coach LSU basketball can pull in. I mean, look at the football program. We thought we could pull in the top available coach in the country, we thought we could make NFL coaches want to leave their jobs to come to LSU. We got a career 10-25 coach.
Basketball ain't even close to what football is. Who exactly do you think we can get?

Our someone who is having decent results, that is younger, at a lesser program.........
Is this really a hard concept?

He couldn't convince guys to stay in state at Indiana, but he will convince guys to stay at LSU?
