Can't hate on a kid for knowing it's okay to walk away. Good luck oneal.

Good luck to him for sure, back injures are the worst, you never know if or when they'll flare up again

I'm sure that's a tough decision for a young kid with talent.

I wish him luck and hope he can make a full recovery and comeback.

Stress fracture in one of his vertebrae I think.

Guessing he would probably be healthy for the spring but with no fall, the staff said take a year off.

Sucks, he showed some good power. If he could have cut down on the strikeouts he could have been a star.

What's our current roster number?

I believe we're at 40 now, based on what Project posted in an earlier thread. I think Poche is the only current player left to make a signing decision. Not sure about incoming recruits.

with the 35 man roster it's a shame you can't replace guys injured
Cartwright is another one that may not be ready for next season yet takes up a roster spot

Takes a grown man to make that kind of decision I wish only the best for him. Good luck on whatever he decides to do in life.

It sounds like he will be back...just not next season. He'll be in a torso cast for the next 3 months and won't be on next years roster. He'll try a comeback the following year when the numbers aren't so tight on roster spots.

Edit: Andy will be on 104.5 ESPN in a few minutes and they'll ask him about it.

When I read the description of his injury (L5 fracture I think?), I knew that spelled trouble. Back injuries are no joke, and common injuries from overuse and perhaps playing too much as a youth. Best of luck to him and hope he returns to playing.
