Did anyone catch this 1 hour show on Showtime this weekend? It was pretty clear that he had no intentions of attending school for academic purposes and viewed most fans as money grubbing people who see him as a famous person about to come into some money. I couldn't watch the second half as I was shaking my head throughout the 1st half.

Point is Coach Jones didn't know how to manage Simmons. Everyone knew Simmons would only be here for one year and didn't give a damn about school. It was Jones' responsibility to find a way to motivate the kid. How in the hell does Coach Cal find a way to motivate multiple 5-star kids who end up being high one and done draft picks year in and year out? Y'all can bash Simmons all you want, but I think the ultimate responsibility lies with Johnny Jones. He brought him here and it was his responsibility to guide, motivate, and coach him up.

Is this a joke? Jones is the head coach. Of course he deserves responsibility for not leading and motivating those young men and getting them to play together as a cohesive unit. He's an atrocious coach. Put Simmons on any of the "blue bloods" who have a functional head coach and he's first team All-American or national POY.

Well it was Jones's responsibility. His job depends on his ability to get the most out of his players.

He brought Blakeney and Sampson with him. He brought literally millions and millions to the university. Think we would have played Oklahoma without him? Or have games like McNeese on ESPNU? People are ignorant.

As Hammond said, Jones absolutely was responsible for Ben. Also, only LSU fans look at that as him EVER bashing LSU in that show. It was all about screw the NCAA, not LSU. There are tons of players who don't go to class.

Easy, if they frick up, he'll bench them for another 5-star stud.

It doesn't even have to be a blue blood.

The following notable one and done players who didn't go to a blue blood:

Michael Beasley
DeAndre Jordan
OJ Mayo
Kevin Durant

All of these guys at minimum made a NCAA Tournament appearance.

I watched it in full.... I was wondering if anyone caught after LSU got embarrassed by Texas A&M in the SEC tournament on the show it explicitly said that Simmons dropped out of school and hired an agent. I'm guessing this was the one of the major factors that had LSU decide to forgo post season tournament consideration for the NIT and College Basketball Invitational. I know all this was rumored at the time but this kinda substantiates those rumors.

Brent Whataburger said it best when he was calling one of the games, "Ben Simmons can’t wait to get to the NBA. There will be plays drawn up for you, young man."

A true "future" star would have a burning desire to play the sport he loves "all out". Simmons doesn't display that burning desire. He may become an NBA star, but never an NBA "great", IMO.

Again, people need to blame the system, not the 18/19 year old kid for being forced into making a decision he didn't really want. He came here because he was essentially forced to go to college for a year, and he chose America to get the most exposure and the best chance to be drafted #1 overall. We were the beneficiary because ole Johnny hired his godfather.

We should be happy for what he DID do on the court and be mad that the system itself is clearly broken.
