Here are a couple of more serious tips we’ve picked up from the guys who actually set the odds before the season and during the football and basketball campaigns:

Remember, this is NOT who Vegas thinks is the best or who they think will win. This is Vegas booking against who they think the public will be placing money on. Big difference, but interesting nonetheless.

quote:

1. Oddsmakers care only about who’s placing bets in their casinos. What your bookie in Smyrna, Georgia’s doing has no impact. They don’t get a piece of that action. So when the experts are setting their boards each week, knowing who’ll be betting in Las Vegas is a key to making sure they get an even amount of money coming in on both squads in each game.

quote:

2. For that reason, the folks in Vegas like three kinds of teams. Name teams — the traditional powerhouses — will often pull in cash from the casual gambler. The guy who bets once a year is more likely to put his money on Alabama, Notre Dame or Southern Cal than he is on Cincinnati (whether or not he knows a thing about those teams or not). Teams with big alumni bases also get a little extra love from oddsmakers. Ohio State, Texas, Arizona State, Wisconsin, Penn State and Florida have some of the largest enrollments in the country. Therefore, it’s more likely that a Buckeye grad or a Gator fan will stroll into a casino and plunk down a few hundred bucks on his favorite team this fall. Finally, West Coast teams often get a bump from the bookmakers, too. Who bets in Vegas on most weekends? A whole lot of folks from Arizona and Southern California. Then toss in folks from across the rest of the Pac-12 region for good measure. The oddsmakers know this and they factor it in to the lines they set.

quote:

With all that in mind, lets take a look at some of the future bets you could make on SEC teams as of late last week (we’ll include the teams with the 10 best odds overall, plus all listed SEC squads):

If I had to make a living betting on this, I'd favor Oklahoma, too, Their path to the BCSNCG is a much, much easier one than 'Bama's or LSU's. Among other things, they don't have to play 'Bama or LSU.

Hence why they are the #1 spot of Vegas. They know everyone will put money on them for this very reason.

Apparently the oddsmakers aren't paying attention to OU during bowl season because they have been choking right and left since 2000.

for the record, i LOVE Nebraska's schedule this season

Sept. 3 Tennessee-Chattanooga at Nebraska
Sept. 10 Fresno State at Nebraska
Sept. 17 Washington at Nebraska
Sept. 24 Nebraska at Wyoming
Oct. 1 Nebraska at Wisconsin
Oct. 8 Ohio State at Nebraska
Oct. 22 Nebraska at Minnesota
Oct. 29 Michigan State at Nebraska
Nov. 5 Northwestern at Nebraska
Nov. 12 Nebraska at Penn State
Nov. 19 Nebraska at Michigan
Nov. 25 Iowa at Nebraska

they catch Wisconsin early, so they still might be working out the kinks at QB. if they can get past that contest, they have a real shot to be unbeaten when they play Iowa to close the regular season

My mistake. Have 3 bids going out all on the same day, and taking little mental breaks to come here to screw around. I read that part wrong.

@FSU
Mizzou
@UT (not really)
Texas A&M
@OK St

Those are actually some pretty tough games. Not like Bama/LSU's schedule but to be fair...

Never made a bet like this, is there a web site or anything where I would be able to place $100 on LSU to make it to BCS?

That's fine, let OU have that target on their back. I don't want the #1 spot that early in the season.

I'm also calling for OU to get smoked by FSU. If OU does pull that game out, I think UT will beat them in a close one. This will be UTs game that returns them to their glory days if they win it.

I don't think OU will drop both of those games, but the will lose 1 of the 2.
