Not that polls matter all that much, but the playoff rankings usually mirror the AP relatively closely.

Michigan finishes the season at 10. This is infuriating to me. They lost 3 of their last 4 games. They never dropped more than 4 spots, which is their fall after the FSU loss. Some teams really do just get the benefit of the doubt from the media.

LSU, on the other hand, dropped 5+ spots after each loss (fairly certain, didn't look up the exact numbers).

Now what is unique about Michigan is, all the things you can say about them to justify not dropping- you can say about LSU.
1) All losses were close and they could've won each game. We lost 3 games on the last possession, with the ball in scoring position to win. The other loss was a close game to Bama who we held scoreless for 3.5 quarters.
2) Eye test/talent - Both teams were in the 5 most talented teams in the country

I guess you could say Michigan had a better schedule of wins? But, they played 4 games outside of Michigan, going 1-3 in those games with the lone win being Rutgers. So the argument can go both ways.

Just frustrating to me that some teams get the benefit of the doubt from the media, which does play a role in perceptions for the playoff committee. (Not saying LSU should've been in playoffs, but it's the principle of the logic that could someday hurt LSU)

Relax and remember that the AP pollsters' opinions are just as worthless as anyone else's opinion.

Number of losses have historically been the #1 factor in the polls. Teams aren't rewarded for winning or punished for losing. They are re-ranked every week. Quit crying.

Also, LSU is the highest ranked 4-loss team. And we're even ahead of Florida who had 1-more win than we did and they beat us at home. We are getting a fair amount of respect.

Michigan is 10-3 and LSU is 8-4. How exactly do you want those two teams ranked?

Michigan is 10-3, LSU is 8-4. You can't possibly make a case for us to be fairly ranked ahead of them.

you can't just look at it in a vacuum. you have to look at the total picture each week to see why teams fall in polls.

the week LSU lost to Bama and plummeted, damn near every team ranked right behind LSU won. that Loss gave LSU a worse record than all of them, so LSU fell far. We fell back behind all the two loss teams we were previously ahead of, but still at the top of the 3 loss heap.

the week of Michigan's loss to Iowa, they went into the week with at least a one game lead on the teams behind them. that week, not just Michigan, but 2 other top 4 teams lost. they fell from the middle of the undefeated pack to the middle of the 1 loss pack. just due to all of the other teams surrounding them doing the same thing they did, there wasn't much movement in the polls.

now look at end of the season rankings.
Michigan is closer to the bottom of the list of 3 loss teams than they are the top.
LSU is at the very top of the 4 loss teams.

Do people really give a shite where we are ranked at the end of the year unless its number 1?

If O had coached the entire season we would have been 11-1 or 10-2

A 4 loss LSU team seems fair at number 13. Preseason top ten.
