Most of the game, he had it, then he passed it back out. The fans were BEGGING for him to take it to the hole, but he wouldn't. Granted there could have been more plays designed specifically for him, but he had the post anytime he wanted it.

Not sure what his deal was. It was proven that 1 on 1 in the post, they couldn't guard him, but he just kept passing it back to the perimeter.

When the defense collapses on him he makes the smart basketball move and gives it up. However the smart basketball move is not the RIGHT basketball move for this LSU basketball team. This team needs him to be selfish.

He seems scared to shoot sometimes.

Vitale was begging for Simmons to take over the game and Simmons just kept on passing the ball to his teammates.

He definitely needs to be more aggressive, especially when they were missing shots down the stretch , go to the basket and hurt them at the foul line.

Watching game day earlier they were all saying he's not aggressive enough and during the game DV kept saying it but mussberger brought up a good point when he asked why is JJ not coaching him to be more aggressive....

One of them even made the comment that they will draw up plays for him in the NBA ...

This exactly.
It's the same thing Lebron got bashed for early in his NBA career. He's making technically the "smart" basketball play. The problem is he's far and away the best player on the floor so giving it to a teammate for a higher quality shot isn't usually the best decision for our particular team

He just needs to know the moments in which he needs to take over. Sometimes its om to pass the ball, but there are parts of the game where it is important to put the ball in the basket and thats where we need him most

In Ben's defense it took LeBron like 8 years in the NBA to figure it out.

Have you already forgotten the Piston series in 2007?

OP is exactly right. Over and over he had one on one in the high post and passed the ball. And not sharp passes to open guys for a shot. Many just an easy throw back to post.

Just seems like he is not comfortable in that role right now.

Yes, I truthfully have forgotten a conference finals for a team that went on to be swept in the finals.

on the comparison of Simmons to LeBron

There was a stretch of a few possessions in the 2nd half where he was looking to be aggressive and take over the game. Then it just disappeared.

Had Ben been aggressive, LSU would have crushed OU with the way TQ and Victor we're playing yesterday.

So I'm not allowed to compare them even though at the same age both were the best player on their respective teams but didn't want to take over games? I didn't compare their skill set.

This! Kid has never faced adversity. He's never "lost" and he is deathly afraid to do it on the big stage. Whoever drafts him better fix this or he is going to look silly in the pros

Give the kid a break. He's still only 19 years old. Hopefully he will learn from this and become a little more aggressive/selfish for the rest of the year.

That line of thinking is why he still has this problem. Next year what will the excuse be? "Well he's just a rookie go easy on him"
