quote:
"He may be an Ohioan by way of Michigan, but he's a Louisianan at heart now," former LSU running back Justin Vincent, a member of the 2005 team. "He understands our culture and how people here love LSU and Louisiana. I think the Katrina (experience) had a lot to do with that."
quote:
It was a profile in courage," then-LSU athletic director Skip Bertman said. "I can't emphasize enough, everything we asked of Les he did. He never said, 'But what about the game?' As he always does, he put the kids first and family first. "He did a wonderful job not just coaching the team but pulling them through this mother of all distractions. No coach in the history of college football has gone through this and could do it better than Les Miles handled it."
quote:
I walked into the (PMAC) and saw doctors and nurses, our players and coaches with volunteer badges just busting it to do what they could," Miles said. "I remember one girl had a severed Achilles tendon because something had hit her underwater. Families were connecting. It was the first time I met Big Baby (LSU basketball player Glen Davis). He was holding up an IV bottle. It was special."
quote:
"I think the strength of the state of Louisiana was never more evident than in how it handled that storm," he said. "I've always been that guy from Michigan, but when that happened, I enjoyed saying, 'I'm from Louisiana,' and I always will be."

Every coach has their coaching blunders but not every coach is as great a man as Les Miles

I sure would enjoy splitting a sack of crawfish with Les some time.

It's a shame how that man is treated on this board by some.

The difference between Les Miles and Tommy Tubberville was huge. As much as the new coach was all in for Louisiana, I remember Tubby trying to get the game moved to Auburn bc he didn't think it was safe for his players.

amen. it's sad how our culture has digressed in that regard. just look at the political arena; if one disagrees with the viewpoint of another it becomes an invitation to vilify him with lies and innuendo.
les miles is a football coach; he is also a human being that makes mistakes. on the balance, I, as an LSU alum, feel damn fortunate that we have les miles as our HC. he has and will continue to positively impact many young men of our state. he also wins lots of football games.

I agree. As everyone else, he has his flaws but seeing our players take a knee right after the FL player went down really displayed the character he instills in his players. Proud moment

I sincerely hope he gets to go out on his terms at LSU.

Gotta be completely honest. After sitting in the stands, on that Monday night sweating to death! "Damn it was HOT", hottest night I can remember, I absolutly hated the man. But he has grown on me

The emotions were too high, I remember seeing Kyle Williams going nuts after a stop in the first half thinking "these guys aren't going to last in this heat".

One day the haters will hopefully realize how lucky we are to have a coach like les

What's with the down votes? If you were at that game there's noway in hell you were a Miles fan after that second half conservative collapse that night!

Damn strong football coach, damn strong man, proud he is the Head Football Coach of LSU.
Love me some Les.
Love me some Les.

He has been great for LSU and has upheld what Sabah built. Didn't like the hire originally but he is good man and good coach.

2005 was one of the best coaching jobs in the history of LSU. its a shame we had to play the SECCG with no rest because we proved against Miami what we would've done had we been able to rest.

Sometimes Les leaves me scratching my head, but you gotta love the guy. Hope he retires here
