That's radio advertisements. What you guys saw on the feed is the jumbotron feed, and what you heard was the radio.

I commented how trashy the ads made our new park
It isn't the ads. Its the LSU Athletics landfill behind the outfield wall that makes Alex Box look trashy. And that POS batters eye.

Jesus, I would love to see someone make a list of everything that people complain about, about Alex Box.

Premium on ad space in the box. If it drew revenue at other parks they'd do the same. But it doesn't. The box is special. Money talks.

that's what people dont understand and why everyone is missing the point
businesses WANT to pay for those outfield spots, its not like LSU is forcing them to...and trust me, they are very expensive
At most schools there probably isnt enough interest from businesses to even consider putting them up because they dont think it would be worth the money
the ads are a good thing and shows you are a big time program because companies know how many eyes will see he sings in person and on TV/in the Geaux Zone every year

USC only needs one billboard. One big one that says Damn, I wish we could be like LSU.

There are a lot of things about the box that make it look a little cheap on TV. I think part of that is because the facade is great, and probably where a lot of money got spent.
The 2 different heights and styles of outfield bleachers are terrible, the unfinished looking handrailings, the color of the walls, etc.
Aside from that though I think it really sucks what a shitty draw the students get. I'm very jealous of all of the Miss schools, and the other stadiums that have berm seating for their students to utilize.
I go to games quite a bit in the time I've been a student, but the baseball team doesn't have the feel of ownership for the students that the football team does, and even the basketball team did when they won the SEC in 09. I think its a real shame that the best baseball team in the country to have such a total bullshite student section setup.

quote:i disagree. after watching the series, i think the box is clearly the better park. the aesthetics of the box look like they have a better architectural design. carolina stadium is great but, not as impressive. in person and on tv, the box looks incredible
Sorry guys let's face it. SC baseball stadium is better than the box
carolina has that weird setup down the 1st base line with the standing room and the restaurant/suites.
from the outfield camera, carolina stadium looks small time whereas the box looks awesome.
picnic area? meh. i didn't see anyone there anytime the camera panned over. what good is it if no people are there?
no scoreboard in the country can match the box.

quote:what college baseball stadium do you think is better than the box? the answer is none. carolina and baum are the only two that can come close. after that it's disch/falk, swayze, dudy noble and that's about it.

berm seating
i will never understand the fascination with a berm. sitting on grass on a blanket. i don't get it. it looks disorganized.

The suite/pressbox/grandstand area looks pretty crappy at SC. Like a big barn. I was really underwhelmed by it.

I love the look & feel of Baum > the box. Like the 360 degree concourse & chair back seating throughout.
Also like others have mentioned, the box just looks tacky to me.
-shitty tennis net batters eye
-metal bleachers
-ads plastered everywhere
-bright green fence as opposed to darker hunters green others use
-purple/gold/green seats in grandstand scattered w/ no rhyme or reason
I could keep going but why bother. We're SEC champs & I've got a flight to Omaha to book

easiest way off the top of my head to put a large number of SRO students in one place without taking up very many seats that LSU needs to sell to pay for the stadium.
The fact that no effort was even made in the planning of the new park to have anything for the students of the university has always disappointed me, and like I said I am very jealous of what looks like an incredible environment for both MSU and OM students.

Anybody brought up that USCe's baseball program bleeds money? Guess who makes money? I'll take the billboards. Advertisements have been on outfield walls since the sport was invented.
Posted on 5/19/12 at 9:58 pm to Honkus
LSU leads college baseball in attendance every year and while most of that is contributed to the success of the program since the beginning of the 1990's, it is also quality entertainment for a reasonable price.
In order to keep it at a reasonable price, there are some areas that has to be "down graded" and I would rather have the "down grade" of quality of the stadium in order to be able to create the atmosphere Alex Box has than have a tricked out stadium that will have 3k-5k less fans per game because the ticket prices have to be less affordable.

Bingo!
LSU's Ath-Dept overlooks them since LSU Baseball is the #1 attendance monster in attendance/tix sales. Since some of it's older geriatric baseball-only fanbase wants a "light roar" leisurely time at the Box except when life-and-death for SEC & Regional wins..and needing the added intimidation and crowd roar.
Skip went from Frat house-to-house when building LSU Baseball from scratch, much like Dale Brown with any student crowd to address for support, and much like Johnny Jones will be doing to resurrect LSU Hoops to life with a rabid student fanbase..
LSU's Ath Dept knows well that they need the students, and in numbers, and being rabid, for winning at Foots and Hoops. Now, as for Baseball..not so much.
To not have better addressed student needs, in a student designated outfield seating or SRO area, to date, disappoints. The new Box has been opened a while now, it's time for some newer additional phases/projects to get done..not all of which should be strictly prioritized for added revenue.
The Box is gonna just get better and better in due time.

Well they did just add more suites. I believe they're currently working on the hall of fame.
Posted on 5/19/12 at 11:01 pm to bbap
I have faith they will address the current bugaboos, and the students better, in coming phases/projects.
The Box, it's location, shapes, scale, layout, design, acreage, etc..allow great leeways for future adjustments, additions, expansions. Not to mention if there was ever any school, program, fanbase, baseball budget, to meet it's needs..it's LSU.
