IIRC they had the band mic'd up the first year of the SEZ expansion. Lack of the band is disappointing so far, and if the numbers are down, the speakers could amplify the band just as good as they do the Turndownforwhut.

I'm pretty sure the Marketing Department decides whether the band plays or the speakers play. They give the cue so the music and band don't overlap. Perhaps they didn't give the band enough playing time? I wouldn't say this is the band's fault, but I'm not the drum major so this is just speculation.

On a totally separate note, how about paying Mile $9M to leave!

I hope you know that money didn't come from the University. The revenue machine that is LSU athletics and boosters paid that.

Then we should do what lots of other schools do and put a mic in front of them.

We sat in the south end zone more towards the east. We could barely hear the band at all. So for that fact alone, I didn't mind the piped in music bc that's all we could hear.

The canned music is nauseatingly loud. A few times the band was about to play only to have the obnoxious rap music start blasting over the north end zone speakers.

Went to my first game in 2 years on Saturday and sat in the seats I always use in the SEZ and was shocked at how I could barely hear the band at all. I was really confused by it because it's never been an issue before.

All the cheers were actually louder and had better participation before halftime when they were just playing the band cheers through the loudspeakers as the band was heading down to the field.

I suspect the director doesn't know much about football and they aren't following the game very closely.

I suspect you are right.

The band literally has someone from the athletics department with a radio communicator from the press box that tells when them to play. He has a rundown by the second of what is being played throughout the stadium.

Piped-in, loud, over-modulated, crap throughout the game, instead of the time-tested wonderful traditions of the GBFTL firing up the crowd through all the ups and downs of the fight, is the primary reason why my wife and I relinquished our long-held season tix last year.

The powers that be have tossed aside one of the key components that built Tiger Stadium's reputation as the greatest college football venue in the country.

I'd much rather watch the Tigers on HDTV in my own living room now, than be constantly disappointed and irritated by the new atmosphere of Tiger Stadium, and I think that is very, very sad indeed.

I upvoted because I thought you were requesting more piped in music.

The band used to pump the crowd up, at least when I went in the 90s.

Now? The piped in music is provocative. IT GETS THE PEOPLE GOING.

Especially our third down (defense) song...

Our band is trash now.

Yep....they have pretty much let go of all tradition and sold out to the money/admin/whatever....WTF was that shite with Mike and the cell phone on the video boards during half time on Saturday. First off it was dumb and secondly it was like they let a 2 year old run the transitions because it never matched. If you are going to do something stupid at least do it well.

I've been waiting on this thread all morning. We win bigly and the stadium/campus was electric.

But, too much piped in music. Tiger fans just need something to bitch about.

I disagree. Less piped in music. If I wanted artificial noise, I'd go to an arena football game. Tiger Band is an LSU tradition. I wish someone would tell the marketing department to take a flying leap.

I really don't care for the piped in music. Things change though...don't see it going away. Everything changes over time, including traditions, whether we like or not.
