I just don't see the point in embellishing their measurements in college.

They do it at all levels. High school is the worst but even the NFL smudges those figures. I think its just one of those old habits that didnt die

It's a psychological thing as much for the player as it is the opposing team. Some guys like "knowing" they're 6 feet or 200 lbs. It's why you see it in HS so much. Coaches don't care but the kids do so why not let them have an extra inch... in cleats... with the helmet on.

LSU players really never run great times, but they have great game speed. The only player that was timed fast and everyone knew he was fast was PP7.

True dat. It happens every where and almost at every level of football. Vast majority of players are listed an inch or slightly more than their actual height. Most NFL scouts already knew that Landry and Beckham were about 5'11

Why did I always perceive Landry as being significantly bigger/taller than Odell?

Not the only one. I was thinking Odell was closer to 5'10 and Jarvis was closer to 6'1. I pay more attention to those measurables when they're recruits so that's probably why.

You don't have to be the fastest, just have to catch the football everytime it's thrown your way.

Jarvis Landry is that type of WR.

He will be Golden Tate 2.0. He's gonna have a long, very successful career as a number 1.5 WR. If he's your bonafide number one with nothing else around him you're probably going to struggle at times, but if you've got decent talent near him you'll love him. He'll also punish you in the running game. I expect he'll get picked up by one of Baltimore, San Fransisco, Pittsburgh or New England. He'd fit in with all those clubs.

JL and OBJ came in with bigger hands than Mett despite being 5 inches shorter.

JL - 10 1/4
OBJ - 10
Mett - 9 3/4

Odell was 5'10" on Rivals and 5'11" on Scout. Jarvis was 5'11" on both.

also, LSUsports.net tends to give guys' true heights on their signing day list. then they go on and embellish on the roster, esp as the player gets older. LINK

I'd love it if they would run some times, and then get into full uniform and run them again in pads. Do it the next day, so they can be rested and ready. Very interested to see who really carries that speed over, and who doesn't; seems like a great measurement of core strength and "readiness" vs potential.

THat is actually a detriment. Could explain some of the fumbling. Clausen was high on most people's boards until they measured his hands. Carolina took a shot, but many were predicting failure. Hand length is something but something can also be said for grip. Favre's hads are not long, but extremely strong, that is why he throws with such velocity.
