This problem could easily be resolved if the Band were allowed to play "NECK"!

And the bluehairs were less uptight. I never even noticed what the students were chanting until somebody made a shitstorm about it.

When Tiger Stadium is at its best, Geaux Tigers chants or LSU around the stadium. The piped in music kills the crowd in big games.

In 2010 LSU went to Florida to play in the swamp. Most of you remember that game. Florida had turned the tide when Dubose ran a kickoff back for a touchdown (that was the last kickoff return LSU had given up before TCU, incidentally). The crowd was jacked. The stadium was finally loud for the first time all day. After the kickoff to LSU, the game went to a media timeout. The crowd began organically chanting ORANGE and BLUE. It was going to be very difficult for LSU to operate. The stadium operator played Thunder Struck. The crowd was silenced. LSU came out to run its play thereafter to minimal crowd noise. Florida had just killed their home field advantage. LSU went on to win the game.

Dammit, this. I don't see why it's so hard for LSU to understand. Piped in music is for pro stadiums where there's no crowd involvment. Tiger Stadium doesn't need it.

A loud arse rap song whose intro sounded like a horn telling Muslims to pray came on during the game and Hawthorne started freaking out about how loud it was. It was classic Jim.

It will sound much better next year when there are speakers, video screens, score boards, etc. on both ends of DV.

Something I noticed is that the PA announcer seems a lot calmer. I didn't hear any "SCORE!!!!!!" after a TD last week. Maybe it was just the fact it was UAB though.

does it sound better?

yes

They need to adjust the treble levels though and turn it down a notch.

Back in the day I used to have some pretty loud beat in my cars.. sitting in the NEZ reminded me of why I'll probably be deaf when I'm older

The problem is that if you turn it down any more, the south end was having difficulty hearing anything as were people in the south east and west uppers. They just need to balance the sound out so they don't have to deafen the North end.

Do we even do the Geaux Tigers cheer during the game anymore? I remember that the cheerleaders used to start it, but it seems like they only do it during pregame now.

The problem is, whoever is operating it during the game is approaching it the same way he did last year: increase volume till it's loud, and then a few notches more above that point.

These speakers are obviously of better quality. You don't have to do that with these.

I'm hoping it's one of those things that it's a new setup and they're ironing out the wrinkles this year.

They don't ever let the crowd do it. Borne talks 90 percent of the time telling us about Eatel and verizon etc etc. Then the band plays (good), then they play music. Then play starts. That is the damage that is done by filling every waking second that play isn't going on with something artificial. You disconnect the fans from the game.

Well said. It's bad enough that the stadium itself is plastered with ads, but we also have to listed to Dan Borne babble incessantly about Associated Food Stores, Gerry Lane, Verizon, etc.

They were constantly changing the volume the entire night. Before the game, during warm ups, you could barely hear the music at all in the SEZ. In the middle of the game it was blaring. I think they are still trying to get a feel for how loud to have it turned up. The answer to your question though is yes, the system does sound much better than the old one. MUCH better.

You have hit the nail on the head.

Go to any professional sporting event. There is not one second that is not occupied by SOMETHING, whether it is loud music, ads, or a promotion. It is like they think that if there is a second of silence, the crowd will get bored. The NBA is the worst because they allow crappy music and sound effects to go on during game play.

And now LSU is rolling with the wave and following the herd. The expert marketing gurus come from the same cloth as everyone else and they feel like there MUST be some sort of activity going on constantly. They are catering to the ADD/low attention span crowd. I miss the good old days when I could just chill for a while during timeouts and not be bombarded with noise.

If they want to help the fans out with these media timeouts, instead of playing gimp music, how about you make the seats slightly more comfortable then sitting in a Burmese tiger trap.

When it comes to recorded music, the correct answer is zero.
