New OTL article on Lyles/LSU

Pretty much calls the recruiting video's worthless...
[link=(link)]https://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/6788501/willie-lyles-sold-video-lsu-no-recruiting-value?campa[/link]
Some of the video scouting reports purchased by the LSU football program last fall from Willie Lyles, director of the defunct Texas-based scouting service Complete Scouting Services, contain highlights of players who already were playing Division I football at other programs and poor-quality, full-game shoots that did not isolate or identify any players at all -- information that would likely be of little use during the recruiting process, a review of the reports by "Outside the Lines" has found.
Some of the clips did identify and show current junior college players who could be recruited, but some of the highlight packages appear to have been used without permission from online sports-video companies that assembled them, and at least four players' clips can be found on public video sites like YouTube.
As part of an ESPN public records request that LSU fulfilled last week, "Outside the Lines" received copies of the 32 DVDs Lyles sent to LSU last fall in exchange for a $6,000 payment. LSU officials acknowledged last Thursday that NCAA investigators have spoken with several members of their football coaching staff about the payment to CSS.
Lyles' recruiting service became publicly known last March after he was paid $25,000 by the University of Oregon shortly after a high school player he had a close relationship with -- highly-touted running back Lache Seastrunk from Temple, Texas -- signed with the Ducks. Lyles told Yahoo! Sports this month that Oregon head football coach Chip Kelly asked him to submit retroactive player profiles to Oregon last February, shortly before Yahoo! broke the story about the payment made to Lyles. The NCAA is currently investigating Oregon.
Gets worse from there... Claims a lot of the footage was pirated by Lyles from other sources. Unflattering for Lyles and will make it look like either LSU was incompetent for not raising hell for it or complicit in something...

Makes us look bad too. I don't like this.

for some reason I keep screwing up the links..
The problem I have with this is that it puts LSU between a rock and a hard place. Scream like UO that Lyles sent us a bunch of crap and if he has any hard dirt on LSU he drops on Yahoo! and then the NCAA. If LSU keeps quite the NCAA says why didn't you guys say something when he sent oyu a load of crap and they begin investigating around campus full bore...
Bad either way..

That is what OTL does. Weren't they the source of the piece on over-signing?

right
it just makes Lyles look like he's an even worse business man
and im sure he just supplemented old juco films from the past 3 years that he had

If Lyles is set up as a legit business enterprise then it's fine. How he obtains his footage is his problem. He can deal with the lawsuits. LSU didn't do anything legally wrong. The guy ran a recruiting service. We paid for his service to provide footage. End of story.

To me this just makes Lyles company look like a shitty company.

That's about what one should expect from recruiting videos. Most are turned in from camera phones. This is a non-issue.

So LSU paid for shoddy work at market value? Not the first time that has happened...

Paying for crappy video isn't a violation. Or meaningless video mixed in with legit ones. There is no stipulation of the quality of media bought.
It was only $6000. Did you expect HD video of full games that isolates only one player?

the way the article is made out to be is we paid Lyles 6 grand to send us recruits and in return he sent us bullshite cover-up for the money we paid him
i.e. - "Lyles sent Mett to LSU"

ESPN.com Headline....
Shouldn't that read "in the opinion of ESPN, not all of the video that Lyles sold to LSU was of recruiting value"?

I like how OTL pretends theyre 60 minutes or some shite.

Other video clips show two players who were already enrolled at other universities: Caleb Evans, a defensive end at Arkansas since the fall of 2009 and wide receiver Coleman Edmond, who played six games at Cal last season. Video of offensive lineman Jordan Allred -- who had already signed with Kansas State in April -- was also supplied. Defensive end Joel Bonomolo, who committed to Auburn in July 2009 and didn't play last season, was highlighted on another disc. And footage of defensive lineman Harrison Wilfley, who didn't have enough credits to graduate from American River College in 2009 and has been on a Mormon mission in Uruguay since March, was also supplied to LSU by Lyles.
This is the paragraph that made me go WTF...
It screams a parallel to UO. Just give us stuff so we can make the compliance guys happy.. It most likely isn't true, but Lyles incompetence makes it look just as bad..
