For safety concerns, street parking will not be allowed on Nicholson Drive/Highway 30 and Burbank Drive south of Skip Bertman Drive. Tailgating is still allowed in the grass areas adjacent to Nicholson Drive, however, vehicles will not be allowed to park in this area. Fans tailgating in these areas are encouraged to use the Old Front Nine free parking lot

Wow. They are completely fricking a large portion of fans with this. Great thinking lsu admin.

LSU brought consultants in to fix the traffic issues degrading the LSU Game Day Experience. Unlike the past, LSU got out of it's own way and actually listened to the consultants.

The no parking along nicholson is to facilitate contra flow after the game. Can't have vehicles facing into oncoming traffic slowing the flow down when they need to turn around.

It's a shame about the tailgating there, but c'est la vie. I'll be happy not to wait in line for hours to get home after the game.

Nicholson is mostly younger crowds, with obnoxious loud music, and I am frankly happy these scallywags lost their spot.

You might not be so happy if they move right next to you.

I support contraflow; however, why couldn't people still park facing southbound? I am not sure I buy the safety piece.

If you're driving on Nicholson that close to the stadium after the game, you will still be waiting in line for a while.

This is stupidity, and I say that as a transportation engineer.

And exactly how is that clusterfrick going to be fixed when nicholson goes from 4 lane one way to 2 lane right past walkons?

The traffic really isn't bad unless you are stuck on river road.

My group has been tailgating there for about 6-8 years 6 years now. We are in our 30's. Now i will agree there are some trash that tailgate there, but there are also some decent tailgate groups there as well. And you aren't getting rid of the trash, you are simply relocating them to another spot, around more decent tailgaters. It really doesn't solve anything.

And those lots are where a lot of visitors come by. We constantly run into people we know who don't normally tailgate because our spot is a bit wide open, and pretty chill.

Our group has decided to already start looking to buy parking passes. Just sucks we have to do this now. Not to mention that the pay for parking spots are terrible, gameday atmosphere wise.

There certainly are some younger people on the stadium side of nicholson. But it's not all younger peeps. And the railroad side was full of long established tailgates.

And like others said...you probably should WANT those younger people to stay where they were. They're the leastly likely to pack up and go home, they'll relocate. Good luck with your new neighbors.

I think when this determination was made, they were only thinking of the "younger" side of nicholson. hell i'm on the "younger" side, and there are thousands of tailgaters there. It does suck jockying for a spot every saturday morning, even when you setup tents friday afternoon. Especially the jackoffs that rope off a 50x50 area and don't show up to tailgate until 2 pm.

Does anyone have any experience with parking in the garage next to the bookstore? Is it hard to get in and out?

Here's another thing i don't get. If you decide to still tailgate in these areas, and you drop off your gear and go park in a lot. How the frick do you get back to the tailgate spot? Contraflow pretty much keeps you from ever getting back to your tailgate. This is looking more and more like an effort to squash tailgating in that area.

I mean, if you tailgate in the "younger side" as we are calling it, then you can't make it back if you park anywhere after skip bertman drive. Then, you must be parked somewhere on campus, because undoubtedly contra flow for the 2 eastbound lanes will take those parked in the levee/hafield/alex box lots, and the other 2 contraflow lanes heading east bound (the original west bound lanes) will be taking all traffic coming from campus.

There is really no way to make it back to your tailgate spot until contra flow has ended.

no you wont be able to tailgate there. its really not feasible. you wont see any tailgating at all really.

Really, the only people that will tailgate there, are those that pick up and leave before the game starts. Because once contra flow starts, you aren't getting back there in a vehicle until after the game.

So, this will just add to the number of people leaving the stadium early?

Two major concepts have come out of this discussion.

1. The proposed changes should improve post-game traffic in a major way.

2. The tailgate-only crowd is getting screwed big time.

The tailgate-only crowd makes a major contribution to the gameday experience.
Tailgating is always mentioned when media articles rate LSU as the best gameday experience.

LSU personnel MUST make a commitment to preserve this tradition.

Compromises must be made!

If you force the tailgate only folks to move to the outer parking lots,
fans attending the game will not be able to sample the fine cuisine of Southern Louisiana!

LSU has created a pedestrian buffer zone on Nicholson Drive.
Yet, the Price Leblanc Parking Lot is between the stadium and this buffer zone.
This parking lot will have cars leaving the game and
competing with the pedestrians to get off campus.
In a perfect world, this lot should be turned into a tailgate-only lot.
All vehicles must leave the lot by the end of the first quarter or they
will not be allowed to move until 2 hours after the game ends.
This means no moving vehicles in this pedestrian buffer zone at peak usage time.

In reality, this lot has probably been prepaid for years.

A nice compromise would be for the Price Leblanc group
to allow some tailgate only people to use a limited number of
parking spots that front on Nicholson and/or South Stadium.
This allows fans going into the stadium to sample the food.
This would also be great advertising for the Price Leblanc Group!
I can see the signs now: This tailgating spot sponsored by Price Leblanc.

There are other lots in this area. The map of Lot 107-1 looks like
most of it is not available to the public. Maybe it is reserved for media vehicles.
Why not reserve the row fronting on Nicholson to have tailgate-only vehicles.
This allows the out-of-state media people to have easy access to the tailgating experience.
What better advertising to a nationwide audience. Surely, this experience will be mentioned on-air.

These tailgate-only spots may have to rotate the occupants to allow more people access to them
throughout the season.

This will require an extra effort on LSU gameday people to implement this concept,
but it will go a long way towards winning the hearts and minds (and stomachs)
of everyone!

We get better traffic flow and more people have access to the tailgating experience.

frick THIS shite!! Those of us who have to go westbound across the I-10 Bridge to get home after the games and who have parking passes south of the stadium and who have always gone north on Nicholson to the Bridge are now facing 1-1/2 to 2 hours to get on the Westside when it has been as little as 20 minutes.

Unless someone can show me otherwise we're frickED!!

Guess who'll be joining the ranks of those leaving early?

And that is thousands of people that this is affecting in this way. frick THIS shite!!!
