Came across this article about the patience the Vikings are having to show with Danielle Hunter. This particular excerpt pretty much sums up what we all thought about Brick Haley.

quote:

"As soon as we drafted him, I made a cut-up of every single rush he had at LSU," the Vikings' defensive line coach said. "I had him come to my office, and I said, 'I want you to explain to me what you were being taught to do.' So we're sitting there, and he's explaining to me how they were teaching him to rush. Well, you run [a 40-yard dash in] 4.5 [seconds]. But you take off on the snap of the ball, and you run wide. Now, the offensive tackle just kicks back and waits on you. You might as well be running 4.9, 5-flat. And number two, I don't think he was exposed to how the offensive lineman was trying to pass protect against him. He was just out there, using his athleticism and trying to make something happen. The first thing I wanted to do was find out what he knew and why I was seeing what I was seeing"

I'll reserve judgment but it all starts at the top and that would be Miles, his track record of hiring assistants has been pretty good with exception of Malveto and even Studrawa wasn't a total screw up

That's not that impressive because I was expecting the op or first poster to blame les.

This is the rant; we are all better coaches than les.

Miles has put more players in the NFL than any other SEC coach, and most of his guys are developed and ready. We all know O is an upgrade tho.

It is not Miles' responsibility to make sure a DL Coach is doing his job. That is all on Chavis.

It is Miles' Job to make sure his defense is stopping teams and preventing them from reaching the EZ.

Chavis consistently fielded good overall defenses with the lone exception being the 1 season where he was massacred by attrition or early draftees going pro.

It is a shame that Chavis and Brick did not do more for these players in terms of coaching them up properly.

I do not blame Les at all for not micromanaging a proven DC or DL Coach that were getting good results apparently without the need to teach fundamentals.(again that is on the coaches who teach those positions).
