It is Miles' Job to make sure his defense is stopping teams and preventing them from reaching the EZ.

Wouldn't that be the defensive coordinator's job too?

I never got the impression that Chavis's teams were particularly intelligent or disciplined. Same at Tennessee. He was fired, remember.

Still not sold on the new guy, but I'm hopeful.

This isn't all that surprising as I had heard the same when he was a coach in the NFL for the Bears. The story told was that his players asked for his removal because they felt he had zero clue what he was doing and wasn't making them better in any way. I love Brick and think he is a great guy, but he wasn't a good coach.

I don't think you're giving Chavis enough credit. However it was really strange how LSU's linebackers never really took that next step like the front 4 and secondary traditionally have, that I'll agree on.

I'm not anointing Steele as some elite DC, lots of questions that need to be answered. Still with him coaching the linebackers, O the line, and Raymond the secondary, it's going to be difficult for him to mess up.

Not surprising. Second year in a row that an NFL team was questioning what the DL players were taught, with the bears and Ego Ferguson. Brick leaving was a huge plus, the DL production had been in decline since he got here.

I'm no fan of Les, but no way is that Miles' fault. That is all on Chavis and Brick.

Hard to believe several posters didn't want us to get O.

Go ahead and shite on miles...you're too predictable now. I would be doing the same if he kept brick for another year...but he didn't. He demoted him and replaced him with the best in the business, so if you can't give him credit for that then I don't know what to tell you.

Hunter should have stayed 1 more year.

And not just because of O. But because he had a lot of room for improvement in general.

What? So what your telling me is that a head coach only talks to and checks up on his coordinators? You've never actually played a sport have you.

it wasn't Les, which is why Chavis had a problem with his contract being tied to Les.

I am not glad this is out there now, but DAMN!

I have to honestly hold Les accountable for Brick being our DL coach for so long. Out of all the things I have never really sided on, one way or another, this is terrible to me. I'm disappointed and ashamed we didn't make a change sooner.

Hell, if Chavis didn't leave, he MIGHT STILL BE AROUND!!!!

WTF!

I actually agree. Not sure why I am so shocked, cause I felt this all along - lack of development of players and all. But I thought, we I never played on DL, so I don't really know what they are doing and maybe I don't understand it. Guess it was all wrong.

Lol

When the guy you pay to run your Defense has a proven track record of fielding top 15 defenses and just so happens to be one of the most respected people in his field in the world...you tend to let him run his own show until it shows up otherwise that he is incompetent in doing so. Especially when that side of the ball is not something you personally specialize in.

I believe Chief had earned Les' respect and trust in how to run his side of the ball based off the years of results provided already. Les is not a Defensive player or Coach.

I am not saying He does not communicate with his coaches or staff...but to imply that he sits there and tells Brick Haley what techniques he should be teaching in practice is a bit asinine considering Les has never played the position.

Les has given hands on demonstrations for OLineman...and Nick Saban for DB's...

Positions they both played in college.
