NCAA T&F Thread: LSU Men Slight Favorites to Win Title Going into Finals

LSU men go for a national title today and Friday. Women compete tomorrow and Saturday but are not a threat to place particularly high.
The 3 clear favorites are A&M, Oregon, LSU. Action starts shortly with the decathlon. A&M has the favorite there. So root against Lindon Viktor and for the Georgia guys and Arizona guy.
edit after first day: Incredible day for LSU. Did basically everything they needed. We are in great position to win. But Florida, Oregon, Arkansas, and A&M are all still in the mix. Friday should be wild. At least one of the 5 teams is represented in each event.
Meet is over. Nethaneel getting hurt obvious hurt the Tigers chances. Had he stayed healthy, we would have been in the mix. Likely still come up just short of Florida though.

Hammer Throw finished. Oregon picked up 6 and Florida(outside contender) picked up 4 points.
Texas A&Ms decathlete is performing well through 3 events.
Below average start for LSU. But nothing too major had happened yet. Running starts in 6 minutes. About to get interesting.

Texas A&M 4x1 failed to qualify!!! This is huge. Moves LSU into co-favorite position IMO.
LSU gets through and Oregon does not. Both were expected.
Event couldn't have gone better for LSU!

Yes, but it's misleading. Almost all of the running today is just qualifying for Friday. The only events scored are field and distance, neither of which LSU has anything in. LSU needs to qualify well today, hope Oregon, TAM, and maybe Florida/Ark don't, and that those teams do poorly in field.

Wow that's pretty much as ideal of a scenario LSU could draw up. A consistent performance by our guys and Oregon choking in another event, and we've got a great shot

TAM is more the team to beat IMO. Oregon only got 2 of their 3 1500 guys through. They were supposed to get all 3 through. Perhaps more importantly, their best BARELY got in and all of the favorites from other teams got in. So they are projected to score less now than they were 30 minutes ago.
PV going on right now. Outside of the 400, I put this as perhaps the most important event of the meet. Chase Wolfe could easily score anywhere between 10 and 0 points for TAM. Its really the only truly fluky, unpredictable event that TAM is in.

Turn on to ESPN2. Broadcast about to start. Hurdles is coming up now. Oregon has the clear favorite and LSU is expecting somewhere between a 4th and 7th place finish.
This is LSU's first performance of the meet. Well try to start off on a good tone.

Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, LSU sprinter, has won the 200m, 100m, and 4x100m today! Future Olympian!

Mitchell-Blake hasn't ran anything but the 4x1 prelim today.
Moore gets through with 2nd fastest hurdles time. One of the other favorites didn't get in. 1 for Oregon is basically unbeatable. If we could get 8 points there, that would be incredible.
Javelin about to start. A&M has a very good thrower. Top seed but there are 2 or 3 guys(WKU, Miss St, maybe Rice) with a chance to beat him.
100 meter about to start. Have to get Nethaneel through here. He's a slow starter so don't freak out early.

Awesome results! Hester and Ronnie Baker both out. Those are the 2 I was most worried about. Don't be too alarmed by the fast times in those heats. Nethaneel dusted 3 of those guys who just beat him a week and a half ago at SECs.
That was just a fast heat. Nethaneel is ready to go that fast.
That said, 2 guys in for Arkansas puts them back in the mix.

And Hester. We need to get both of these guys in. This event is hugely important. All relevant teams have at least 1legitimate threat.
