Here is LSU's statistical profile for this week.

LINK

Not much going in terms of offense rankings, but note that LSU is ranked #4 in scoring defense, #1 in pass efficiency defense, #4 in passing yards defense, and #15 in total (yardage) defense.

hard to believe but our total offense and scoring offense...while not high..is quite a bit better then the jefferson/crowton years.

We've played 1 average game(Wisconsin), 2 awful games and 6 very good games on D this year. I'm surprised the 2 losses didn't skew the numbers even more, but I guess the 2 shutouts balance it all out.

watching treadwell last night has me convinced he is every bit as good as cooper maybe not as fast but more physical and harder to tackle.

he's a definite first rounder.

They did give up 24 points but LSU actually held Wisconsin well below their rushing and total offense numbers for the year. The defense as it stands today would do a much better job against them and moderately better against MSU and AU, IMHO. Lots of youngsters growing up since those games.

We did well on pass D in that one (though Wisconsin's passing attack is bad), but we were fortunate that Melvin Gordon got hurt and only had four or so carries in the 2nd half. The guy had 140 yards on us and averaged 8+ per carry on just 16 carries.

But we've had 5 games where we held the opponent to 7 points or less. Ole Miss and UK were impressive defensive outings.

That's not an uncommon trend, Lester.

just that our defense is average, or maybe a little better than average. Certainly not elite that a #4 ranking would say.

It's quite apparent the defense is getting better as the season goes on Lester . It's also obvious that the whole team is starting to come together. This bye could not have been at a better time in my opinion. It gave the team time to level out a little after that huge emotional win. Look for the same intensity Saturday against Bama. Gonna be a fun one to watch.

I think they are getting close. 3 of those 4 high scoring games came in the dark times of this season. We still lose to MSU and Auburn today, but the defense most likely has a better showing.

Probably. But Prob don't have such extreme ups and downs. We have 1 elite showing against a good team and that's ole miss

We just don't have the DL to be elite and it has shown against good teams.

The addition of Beckwith as a starter since the Florida game and Adams getting the majority of snaps now seems have made a difference though all over the field. LSU has given up 835 yards in the last three games combined along with 37 points.

There are still legitimate concerns about our defense. Still, I'm happy with the progress over the season.
