While may not be totally accurate - its probably ballpark, LSU is spending $300 - 450K on recruiting per yr while UT spent well over $1M - take home message - UT is not getting their moneys worth
BTW UA and $aban spent <$1M. Army spending similar to LSU - not great value there either

It is obvious Alabama and Auburn have a lot of signing bonuses to pay raising their recruiting budget.

Its obvious that Bama is just buying victory in an amateur sport.
Not surprised because they are classy.

quote:In fairness, Army has to work a lot harder to find kids that are: (a) good football players, (b) academically acceptable into the academy, (c) willing to put up with the academy lifestyle, and (d) willing to commit several years of their life after college to military service. LSU really only has to worry about (a).

If you wanna talk about poor value, just look at Ole Miss spending virtually the same amount we are only to sign a bunch of regional JUCO kids and in-state non-qualifiers.

Wish we had the 'off the books' figures

We probably don't want to see them...

That is an extremely interesting link. We def spend the least for national championship contenders.

I do not think the budgets provided reflect the actual amts spent – its prolly a lot higher but its ballpark. Not sure we will ever know exact amount spent w boosters etc – and the AUB UA signing bonuses as another poster pointed out But as well know its all about the benjamins and some people use them more wisely than others

This. Virtually every school shows a year-over-year increase in recruiting budget for 2010 & 2011, but we're supposed to believe the LSU budget went DOWN by 40%? Riiiight.
The Webels show to have spent nearly as much--how can that be?
I'm betting the 2011 LSU number is a typo--should probably be $502K vs. the $302K shown.

I find this hard to believe

Accountants and statisticians are the most accomplished liars on the planet. Until you can get behind the numbers (probably sith a subpoena) there's no way to know if you're comparing apples to apples (but it's an excellent bet that you aren't).

quote:We focused much more in state in 2011 (only 7/23 from OOS) as opposed to 2010 (13/27 from OOS). That means a lot less money required to visit the kids and bring them in for official visits.

2011 was also the first class for Frank Wilson, whose organization greatly increased our efficiency in recruiting.
We also locked up more commitments earlier in the class of 2011, which means less money spent later.
Finally, the NCAA really cracked down on the use of recruiting agencies (Willie Lyles, e.g.) around the time the 2011 class was being heavily recruited, which probably decreased our budget some.
Of course there could be (and probably is) some fancy bookkeeping going on, but there are also some very logical, reasonable explanations why our budget could have gone down. And all these numbers were turned in and accepted by the NCAA, so they can't be completely fudged.

Why don't we just post Dandy Don on this site everyday? He should get credit for what he is doing.

Not sure if these figures are accurate, but its not hard to believe that some of these lesser programs spend more than LSU. For the most part LSU's recruiting haul each and ever year is made up of Louisiana kids. With a few guys from the south sprinkled in and a couple of national ones. Most Of LSU's recruits are within driving distance so obviously its not as expensive to get the players we want.

In numerical order for who spent the most if this report is accurate. LSU is almost sub 40th in the nation.
This is excluding teams who spent zero dollars in 2011 or did not reveal thier recruiting budget numbers, like USC...

So basically, if you're a fan of a conference other than the SEC, you can only be angry at said conferences recruiting budgets for keeping you in the L column.
