With this being the first game under Aranda I expected some miscues and there were some but overall I thought the defense played well. The matchup that could continue to hurt this defense is the tight end vs our OLBers. Some thoughts on certain players.

Tre White: had the best game of anyone on defense and he played great in the slot.

Kendall Beckwith: was second behind White played physical was good in coverage as well. I just wish we had three more linebackers like him.

Duke Riley: is a good linebacker and made some great open field tackles Saturday but his size is going to hurt in the run game having to take on lineman.

Arden Key: played good his speed Rush is deadly wish he was about 250 so he could bull rush OTs.

Davon Godchaux: I thought he did not have a very good game. Was pushed around a few times and looked hesitant.

Tashawn Bower: looked good not great but better than Divinity (granted it was his first game) he should stay the starter until Divinity gets better.

What are y'all thoughts.

I liked Duke a little more than Beckwith last game. He was all over the place and did make great tackles.

Arden Key was not as explosive as I thought he'd be. Clear disadvantage of strength during many plays, mostly because of size and team we were playing.

Godchaux played bad. He looked off.

I thought Valentine was an improvement.

For this being his first college start he played well but he did look lost on a couple plays and tired a few times.

I was actually pleasantly surprised with how well Duke played.

I thought he might be the weak link on D but maybe not.

I still think Jamaal Adams is overrated.

I thought the D played good. We still aren't big/physical enough at the LOS. Thats more recruiting than on Aranda. We need to get Herron back and get Lawrence up to speed.

I thought Lawrence was playing fast despite it being his first college game.

I think TEs are going to eat us up this year.

I think the tight end is the most under utilized position in college football (not just at LSU).

Not sure what you were watching, but Beckwith and Riley were very inconsistent and got lost in the middle of the defense many times. They both had some very good plays, but they both disappeared to often. Beckwith also misread many pass plays.

Overall, the defense was good but must improve tackling, shedding blockers, and conditioning.

I thought the defense was better than it was last year.

That being said, I was surprised how much of a step back the d-line took. They were just complete animals last year, and looked ineffective for the most part in this game

2 sacks and the fact that he actually got a offensive hands to the face (1 in 10 are called)

He was plenty explosive.

Riley is not an SEC linebacker. As a whole, I thought the defense played pretty good. The young guys have to come on. I think Tolliver is a safety playing corner.

Lewis Neal is to small to play de in a 3-4.
Olb got sealed way to easy several times.
Gilmore is not a ng.
Toliver and Jackson were ok,but not great.
Riley and beckwith played good, but should both have 10 tackles in this scheme against a team like wisc.
Everything was pretty good

Anyone who thinks the D deserves any blame should never be allowed into TS again

No, but I was worried about how much time could the offense guve the defense to start dominating from start to finish. But I got my answer in week 1.

Still saw some softness from the d at times. Some miscues in secondary.

I was impressed by dline for the first game. Key pretty much gets held every play. I think it will come around.

If this d can keep forcing turnovers, LSU may win some games.
