Just clearing this up:
I was not bashing the painting, it is amazing. I just thought his knee looked broken and commented about it and that was obviously because of the picture. Some people in this thread took the knee thing a little to serious

Make sure you get the OK from the Athletic Department. Any reproduction of an unlicensed image of a player or school representation (includes logo and/or uniform) can get you (and LSU) in trouble.

It's not LSU legal dept, it's LSU licensing dept. You will need to license the product before production. You can obtain that by getting a license yourself or use some one who has a license.
To get a license yourself, you need business insurance, plus $1200 for the license, and other things. She would have to license every image for each player. She cannot get one license and make anything she wants.
I am going through this process right now for my picture of the first game in Tiger Stadium. I am using someone who already is a LSU licensee. We are only waiting on CLC for the OK. We tried to get it out before Christmas, but it should be out before the BCS game.
You mother's best bet is to paint what she wants and than submits for license and make prints. They will not give a "free range" license, allowing her to paint any player.
Every item that falls under a license must be the exact same, so since no two paintings will be alike (even if she made another one of these Ford's, they won't be the same), they will not license it.
