No, but you are admonishing those who are voicing reasonable concerns.

You can't have it both ways.

Why has it taken this long to rebuild a basketball program in a mediocre conference?

Kentucky lost one game to us. They will still be a good seed I the tourny. We are out of the tournament with 7 games left to play. Rebuilding? We have 4 juniors as seniors starting this year.

One upset loss, it happens. But for this team to not finish in the top 4 of a weak SEC is underachieving.

They aren't a rebuilding team, they are an established powerhouse and they missed the tourney last year....

I don't disagree with that for THIS year. That doesn't mean the program is doomed in the future

So long? He's been here 1.5 seasons and has had 1 recruiting class. He's bringing in talent on what appears to be a consistent basis. Let's see what he does with his own team before we label him a failure

I love how you say 1.5 seasons like they will miraculously salvage something in these last 8 games.

And 1.5 is a pretty long time to go with little noticeable improvement in college basketball.

Who knows. UGA won the SEC tourney while being the worst team in the SEC

wow. This is LSU basketball, not Duke, UNC, or UK where the recruits just come flowing in.

There's been improvement whether you're seeing it or not.

There has been improvement in the talent brought in.

But it doesn't matter if we bring in a Kentucky-type class if they aren't going to actually try on the court.

Jordan Mickey has been the only noticeable improvement compared to last year's team. Martin has been a huge disappointment and every player from last year's team has regressed.

players always will have unreasonable expectations and lofty goals

Making the tournament shouldn't be a loft goal.
Making the Final Four is a lofty goal.
The goal every year should be to make the tournament at least. No reason for a school of LSU's caliber to not compete for a tourney spot every year. We have the players, at least it looks like we do, to make the tourney this year, yet we look nothign like a tourney team.

About a week ago, Florida was the only team in the SEC with a winning record on the road in conference play. We should have beat some of those teams on the road but I think we just don't have many really good scorers other than JOB. Hickey, Martin, Stringer, and Coleman all have their moments but none are really consistent. This team needs a big road win to get some momentum to head into the conference tourney.

I meant in the sense that he is a better starter than ADP.

Despite the new talent we are on pace to finishing just like we did last season.

LSU is not a basketball school. Everyone outside of a dumb % of the fan base realize the task it is to win at LSU.

Neither is Alabama yet they've beaten us in 5 of our last 7 meetings and 2 of the last 3.

Nope, but a rebuilding, improving LSU team should actually improve and beat the pitiful teams. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE is expecting this team to beat everybody, but sheesh, they need to stop losing to the little sisters of the poor. I think what is also supremely frustrating is that they've shown us that they can beat teams like UK and Mizzou so we know they have potential but are playing way below their capabilities. That is more frustrating than them just being flat out bad with no talent. What is happening now is a waste of good talent. When you have good talent that under performs or is very inconsistant that goes to coaching. I'm NOT saying we need to fire coach Jones by any means, but its clear his coaching abilities are not stellar. We hate it but thought for a brief moment that we were going to turn it around and start heading for elite status in the near future, but now it seems as if it is just more of the same. The fans like you who think everything is AOK actually contribute to the problem in so far as accepting mediocrity or less. "We are not a basketball school, it takes time, we are never going to be elite so just be happy with average, blah blah blah..."

Kentucky rebuilds almost every year.

They are an established program. They still have to reload like everyone else. LSU had a top ten recruiting year, I think expectations are appropriate.

Michigan and SMU had similar classes and and are both ranked this week.

Athlon's is unrealistic

quote:

If the Tigers’ perimeter players can provide consistent offense, LSU should return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009.

Joe Lunardi just yesterday had unrealistic expectations

ESPN's Joe Lunardi projects five SEC teams as making the field, including LSU. He said he's got LSU and Missouri as the last two teams in and Ole Miss is one of the first four out.

Definitely improved from last year.

Improved talent, but last year's team played hard. Most people had the expectation of a 9-10 seed in the NCAAs. That is not exactly outrageous.

Losing to Alabama, Texas A&M, and Georgia was terrible and you know it.

This is basketball, not football. A couple great recruits in a decent conference and you should be a tournament team.

A lack of scoring isn't the problem. The problem comes when you allow a slew of bad offensive teams to consistently score 80+ points aginst you. The only team this year that A&M has scored more points against than they did against LSU is a fricking SWAC school.

No one expected this team to win the SEC. No one expected them to make a deep run into the NCAAT. But based on this roster, just making the NCAAT field was NOT an unreasonable expectation. Likewise, this isn't a "rebuilding" year. Last year was. This year isn't.

There are at least 9 SEC coaches that would LOVE to have a roster that consisted of:

4 returning starters that included a 3 year starting All-SEC first team player; a 3 year starting All-SEC defensive player, and a 4 year starter with (now) over 1,000 pts for his career and one of the top 3 pt shooters in the league last year. Add to that mix a top-10 signing class featuring a McD's All-American and 2 other top 75 players.

The unfortunate truth is that this team is underachieving and Johnny Jones and his staff are on pace for turning in one of the worst coaching jobs in the SEC this year.
