Most Difficult National Championship to bring back to BR

We've been extremely lucky in the past 20 or so years, and have seen the Tigers reach the top, or as close you can come to the top in the big 3 sports. Florida is the only SEC team that has matched our presence in Omaha, the Final Four, and of course the BCS National Championship games. Which one is the toughest to win? I have to go with March Madness and the NCAA Tournament, which Florida of course has won back to back, damn near impossible.
1. BCS National Championship
For the most, can only lose 1 time during the course of the year. Win a conference title game, advance to play another team in the same situation, again-for the most part.
2. NCAA Tournament
Regular season record for seeding of course. Get in the Big Dance, survive the first two rounds playing 'possible' lessers teams-meaning from not a top tier conference, but it's a 5 on 5 game and as we've all seen, anything can happen, even LSU making it to the Final Four as an #11 seed. Having to win 6 straight games, where a few bad trips down the court, a drought that last a few minutes, and you're done.
3. College World Series
Again, the regular season is important to set up hosting a Regional/Super Regional. Giving the fact that the Road to Omaha is played for the most part at home, then getting to Omaha where pitching has to be set up, loser's bracket situation, etc.

The most difficult to win is clearly the BCS Championship because there is no playoff. Only 2 teams get bids. There is so much out of your control. You are relying on human polls, computers and other teams. Then you need a little luck.
I think baseball and basketball are about the same.
Baseball is more difficult because you have to win more games but, it's double elimination.
Basketball is more difficult cause its single elimination but, you get to play on neutral courts.

BCS championship IMO. Lots of biased human voters.

i think basketball is the most difficult because it involves more luck than any of the other sports to win the title. in football, the best team usually wins the title. in basketball, you have to win 6 games in a row, all against great teams, to win. baseball gives you the opportunity to lose games in tournament play and still take home the title, so it's definitely the most forgiving.

But basketball also more easily allows for the underdog, possibly less talented team to get hot at the right time and make a run and win the championship. It's so open. But I guess from an LSU POV that makes it harder.

I don't think we're winning the ice hockey title any time soon.

i think basketball because our facilities are not up to par with the nation.we can be good but will keep coming up short.

Basketball.
March Madness is designed not to crown a true national champion, but to create upsets.

I agree with this. But also see the point where the human poll factors in bigtime in reaching the BCS.

we own football and baseball. you win and then theres a chance.but in basketball.our facilities are so bad that we can not recruit with the best.

If you have elite talent, which we have and can get, then CFB is the easiest of the big 3 to bring back.
Baseball is similar to March Madness. Neither sport is one where you ever really see dominance and yet they don't use series based formats for most if not all of their postseason play.
The 2 loss aspect of the CWS is helpful, but if you lose the first game, which happens quite a few times even to really good teams can totally screw over a team by burning their pitchers.

BCS is the toughest but for LSU Basketball. Only Three SEC teams have won it. We're not one of them. Even with the likes of Chris Jackson, Shaq, Stanley Roberts, Vernel, Maurice, Wayne

Here's what my research shows:
For the past 10-15 years, whenever I'm in Vegas, I always try to drop a futures bet on the Tigers to win it all in whatever sport is available to bet at the time.
Thus far, I've had returns on football & baseball.
As such, my non-scientific analysis tells me basketball is the most difficult for us.

I should have worded it better. I guess my question was two fold, which is the most difficult in general to win, and for us specifically was it more difficult to win the CWS or BCS Title. Obviously, when talking about LSU winning the big 3, basketball is definately the most elusive because we haven't done it yet.

I'd guess football, because that's the toughest one to be a 'one year wonder' in. For the most part, you need something of a traditional rep in the sport, and a strong conference affiliation for the voters to get you to the championship game. The Utah's & Boise States of the world are getting there, but it's difficult to believe the voters would ever put them in the championship just on the basis of one good season.
quote:Good question. I don't know the answer. Baseball doesn't get the same publicity, and Skip spoiled us, plus now Manieri seems like he might be getting ready to spoil us again, so it's a tough call.
and for us specifically was it more difficult to win the CWS or BCS Title.
Basketball still seems pretty tough too, because as someone mentioned, a decent team that gets hot at the end can ruin a lot of dreams for quality programs. I'm not predicting LSU to win, but we're a nice example of that this year. We have a legitimate team, they'll make it to the dance, and if they suddenly start playing lights out for a 6 game streak, they can end the dreams of some better teams this year.

SEC Team breakdown of overall sucess in recent years.
Georgia has only been to the CWS a few times, not choking in 1990, actually won it. Have done nothing close to National Championship appearances in football or basketball.
Alabama-CWS trips, zero titles. Football, got it done in 92....nothing since.
Auburn-2004 Football team was in the NC mix, didn't pan out. Not even close to winning anything in basketball or baseball.
Miss. State- Final Four appearance in the 1990s, a few CWS trips. That's it.
Ole Miss- Nothing close in any of the big three.
Arkansas-94 basketball champs. That's it.
Vandy-Nothing close, Sweet 16 basketball.
South Carolina-CWS trips, come up empty
Kentucky-basketball 'success' 98 Champs
Tennessee-while we're talking about 1998,Vols First BCS Champs, that's it.
Then there's Florida and LSU.

"Most Difficult National Championship to bring back to BR"
It is my belief that LSU is unwilling to pay the AAU extortion fees that a required to get the best athletes and win a Basketball title. It is a sad state of affairs but even Duke is feeling the effects of the corruption in college basketball.

Basketball.
Single elimination tournament, and upsets occur often, upsets happen in Baseball as well, but there is of course double elimination.
Whenever you have 2 losses and win a BCS national championship, that can't be the hardest.
