just showing yall how silly this is. Saying there are question marks is the only reasonable position. Anything else is homerism or blind faith... Which is fine.

I'm not real big on assessing the intelligence of a player based on his play on the field because there are often mechanical issues that can manifest themselves as a lack of intelligence. The two things that Etling does much better than Harris, to this point, is his pocket presence and intermediate accuracy.
This offense has pivoted from a scheme that tried to stretch the field vertically with deep passes to an offense that is more focused on playing sideline to sideline inside of 10-15 yards. That increased accuracy is pivotal.
All of the praise about his ability to go through progressions really is the result of his pocket presence. He finds a way to generate more time looking down field than Harris was able to get, so the progressions are the natural result of that time.
The last thing to consider for Etling's success is the coaching change. His numbers are markedly better under Orgeron than they were under Miles.

Why does Moscona have to act like a tool on air?

Pre-snap recognition is a big part of it...

From a conference standpoint, Miss State, Missouri and Ole Miss were virtually identical. Auburn wasn't quite as good, but they have a much better defense compared to the other three.

Man you guys are sensitive. I guess you are right. Danny Etling for Heisman.
Stop being a hysterical little girl. No one has claimed that.

I might need to watch the film more closely, but I'm pretty indifferent on his presnap reads. Alot of these throws are to the first read, but the difference is the first read has become an easier pass to complete compared to the previous regime. Guys are getting better separation and the throws they're asking him to make aren't very difficult.
To be clear, I'm discussing Etling in the context of an upper echelon collegiate QB, not compared to Harris or Jennings. That debate is more than settled at this point.

Not a bad point. The sample size is still so small I probably shouldn't make too many sweeping generalizations at this point.
Then again, that is the core of what we do on the rant.

we are being a bit premature is all im saying. We will know if he is "above average" after November

Compared to Jefferson, Jennings, and Harris.. yeah, etling is undoubtedly a difference maker

He will likely be the top qb in the sec next year, but he is limited...ok
Etling isn't in the top 10 of SEC QBs rating wise, but you think he is not limited?
Lee had higher rating his final year than Etling. Was he not limited too?
Why the butthurt? No one is saying he is a bad QB.

Hard to compare the three but what has made etling more effective than Harris besides accuracy is his willingness to step up to avoid pressure rather than rolling out. A lot of credit has to go to LSU's interior line that has given him room to step up and find open receivers. If that continues against Alabama, I suspect Etling will have a good game and give LSU a shot.

So as you can see his biggest limiting factor is arm strength.
That's not really a problem for a college QB. Accuracy and decision-making can take a guy a long way. Hell, Danny Wuerfel won a Heisman and he didn't have a strong arm. Just got the ball to the right guy and put it on target.
Etling is above average. And tough as nails, too. The guy has taken some serious licks and keeps going. Love that.

Etling will have to play BETTER than he has already for us to get through the rest of our schedule with only another loss. I think his footwork under pressure has been great. But some of the throws have been scary. You can easily pull up a floater from EACH of his starts that would be a pick 6 vs Alabama.

I would add one observation to the comparisons of DE to BH (and Jennings)... the idea of retreating first and not stepping up was one of the bigs problems for BH. It does help stats, but against your average P5 defense, if you retreat the chances of getting a completion are pretty much gone. And if you do run it, you have better angles, no backwards momentum, and a clear view of lanes.

Am I the only one who noticed what problem vs Alabama was last year?
It'll be the same thing next Saturday night.
Qb Protection. OLINE play.
If offensive line plays well and doesn't get dominated we'll have a chance to win.
If they don't and they get their shite pushed in, it'll be 6 in a row and another 30 something to a little bit embarrassing footballgame.

Remember, though, that our O-line holds, according to the SEC. Protecting DE is much harder, therefore.
