Kirk Ferentz has to be one of the most over rated college football coaches of all time. But damn those Iowa fans will come to his defense if you tell them.

I remember when I joined td and posted some shite with my purple and gold glasses on. Everyone said I was ridiculous for posting that LSU was going to be undefeated. Well, it was at that point that I realized that it was ok to speak the truth about LSU. Don't be afraid to speak the truth as a new poster.

Tigerdup, So you learned to be a cynical jackass by posting a lot on the Rant? This post is proof that the number of posts sometimes doesn't mean anything except that certain people have more time to waste than others, and have delusions of grandeur.

Based on objective criteria like wins, NC, and his postseason success, Miles should clearly not be 28 among current coaches. Look at Stoops (5 BCS losses in 6 years) and Tressell's miserable post-season showings (3 BCS losses in a row). I think Miles suffers from people's subjective impression that he is a simpleton and is not a great public speaker (though I like his style).

5. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa. He has won big with talent that annually ranks no better than fourth in his league ? at best ? each season.

They have Tressel ranked 13th and we all know what happened with that head to head.

Tress has beat Miles head to head, too, FWIW.

pete carrol inherited a college football monopoly in a shitty conference and still can't make it. and lets see how UM does when tebow is gone before jumping to such conclusions.

I re-wrote the captions for each coach. Pete Carroll at 4 is a joke. Not having Miles in the top 10, also a joke. Not having Bobby Bowden in the top 30 is a crime.

1. Urban Meyer, Florida. No argument here.
2. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma. A good coach, Stoops is 18-12 against top 30 teams in the last 5 years.
3. Nick Saban, Alabama. Good coach, not better than Carroll. A tie with Carroll at best.
4. Pete Carroll, USC. IS 29-5 AGAINST TOP 30 TEAMS THE LAST 5 YEARS.
5. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa. Not a top 10 coach.
6. Mack Brown, Texas. Top 10 coach.
7. Jim Grobe, Wake Forest. Could he recruit at the same level if he was at Texas? Could he win at the same level if he wasn't a constant underdog?
8. Brian Kelly, Cincinnati. Good, but not a top 10 coach.
9. Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech. Top 10 coach.
10. Mark Richt, Georgia. Has been good but not great..
11. Rich Rodriguez, Michigan. Is 5-12 against top 30 teams the last 5 years.
12. Mike Riley, Oregon State. Has a 11-19 record against top 30 teams in the last 5 years.
13. Jim Tressel, Ohio State. No question he belongs in the top 10.
14. Tom O'Brien, N.C. State. How's the recruiting going?
15. Joe Paterno, Penn State. Should be in the top 10.
16. Kyle Whittingham, Utah. So if he took what Urban built and made it better, is he a better coach?
17. Houston Nutt, Ole Miss. Got a raw deal at Arkansas.
18. Gary Patterson, TCU. Would TCU Really compete in the big 12?
19. Mark Mangino, Kansas. Jury's out.
20. Randy Edsall, Connecticut. They say there isn't a more underrated coach in the nation than Edsall, while previously talking about how Jim Grobe is under-rated.
21. Steve Spurrier, South Carolina. Is he still an offensive genius?
22. Mike Leach, Texas Tech. Probably belongs in the top 15.
23. Greg Schiano, Rutgers. Is 3-11 against top 30 teams.
24. Jeff Tedford, California. Is 7-16 against top 30 teams.
25. Dennis Erickson, Arizona State. Has done nothing with Arizona state.
26. Gary Pinkel, Missouri. Really?
27. Jim Leavitt, USF. Is pretty good I guess, but hasn't done anything.
28. Les Miles, LSU. Is 14-9 against top 30 teams
29. Chris Petersen, Boise State. Good.
30. Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech. He's about ready to prove the option died in the 80's for a reason.

CLM ranked 28th is fricking stupid and those that don't think he's a top five coach is too. If he's not a top 5 coach fire his arse because we are LSU and we can afford the best!

What the hell does this man have to do to prove he's one of the best in the game. He's beat damn near all of those so called greats in big games. He don't lose to OOC teams. He don't lose bowl games. He wins championships. He's a top recruiter. He's an honest man that runs a very clean program. He has the team loaded with talent and is in the position to make a helluva run. What more do you want from a coach?

If you don't think I have enough post you can kiss my arse!

If this hasn't been said, Miles has beaten 7 of the coaches in front of him.

Urban Meyer
Nick Saban
Steve Spurrier
Jim Tressel
Bob Stoops, while at OSU
Frank Beamer
Houston Nutt

The # of postings does not make you any smarter or dumber ( although sometimes I wonder with all the sarcasum that is posted on here).
The older you are does not make you any smarter (just had more oppertunity to make yourself look dumb). I am 59 by the way.
Why is it that everytime someone gives their oppinion someone puts them down for doing it? Your oppinion is no better than the others so thank TD for letting you post yours.

What criterer (I know I am not smart enough to spell it right so what is your excuse?) or they using? NC's, Record, Recruiter, all the above, what? (it makes no difference who recruited the players it makes a big difference who coaches them. IMHO.)
Not very many has out recruited Les since he has been here. How is it that Rich Rod is better than Les when Michigan wanted Les over anybody? Just because he stayed at LSU made him a worse coach? I thank all these rankings do just what were intended to do and that is to keep us bickering back and forth between schools and conferences in order to create these stupid non-sense polls that do not mean one single thing. Because N.E. Louisiana beat Alabama does that make that coach better than Saban? After all he was the coach that beat his team. The same for Utah should that coach be better than Saban, after all he beat the crap out of him in the bowl game.

Les is better than most and not as good as some the main the thing is he is our coach the Coach of THE LSU Tigers and to me that alone makes him the best. (Right now!) Until someone else comes along.

those are fluid rankings that are updated after every game. why should miles be ranked any higher after last season's horrible failure?
