OK!! Who would YOU rather have under center in the first game?? LEE or JJ?????
Look, we dont know whats going to happen. Im pretty sure 75+% of Tiger Nation thought Keiland was going to be the definite starter by the App St game...and he had a bad spring. We don't know whats going to happen. They actually have time to work with Lee now in the offseason and to work on his mechanics.

Miles knows that an open competition is the best way to push these guys in order to make sure the QB position is as strong as it can be next year. He stated recently that having an apparent competition between Russell and Flynn (even though he knew Russell would be the starter) was a big benefit for the team.

My guess is that some of you don't follow football with any regularity. JL could be a different player this year with off season adjustments from both him and the coaching staff.
As an LSU fan, I want the best guy under center, regardless of who it is. Spring practice and August will prove who that is, not what occurred last season.

Yes, JL could stop being scared in the pocket. He could not lock into 1 receiver pre-snap and throw it to him regardless if all 11 defenders decide to cover him.
If he can't do that, then the coaches can just run 1 WR routes or put in a better QB.

Exactly. I imagine Jefferson will wind up starting, but anybody who completely dismisses Lee for what he did as a redshirt freshman is a fricking moron. Those pick sixes don't carry over. The score of every game next year will start 0-0.

JJ is the starter.
And if anone thinks miles actually puts out anything other than smoke screens and misinfo during the offseason, they haven't been paing attention the. Last 5 years.

he may, or may not, overcome his propensity to tip the defense on where he is going with the ball...but he showed a lot of ability in spots last year. I think it would be a mistake to write him off at this point, but mentally he has a lot to overcome.

I never said he couldn't. But that's what he'll have to improve on greatly. If he doesn't fix those issues, then he won't get back into the lineup baring injuries.
I'm from the Jack Hunt School of Player Development. Fans couldn't bash him enough his junior year when he was forced to start even though not ready. He looked pretty damn good the very next year though.

jefferson/shepard combo with lee as the true backup.

For those of you who think Lee has no shot at being the starting QB next year, read my sig quote.

colt mccoy is atleast somewhat of a mobile qb tho.. lee doesn't move too well. so mccoy is a dual threat. he also had a very impressive redshirt freshman year at texas. he showed serious promise as a redshirt freshman.. lee.. not so much..

in the 2006 Oklahoma State game McCoy threw for his 27th passing touchdown of the season, giving him sole possession of the single-season Texas record and putting him two TD's shy of the NCAA single season record for freshman quarterbacks

I agree he is more mobile than Lee has been. The point is that players can have up and down years.

in spring training JR could be at QB this yr, and miles would still say the QB position is up for grabs. thats just miles talk for you.

I don't really see the point in a Jefferson/Sheppard combo. They can both run and they can both throw. Seems to me like they should give Sheppard a year to get bigger and develop. I would only bust that redshirt in the case of an injury. JJ has a huge size advantage.

Exactly. Kids get better. Especially freshmen. And I've got news for Doc. If Jefferson doesn't get any better, we are going to struggle. I think he will and will beat out Lee, but it's he's going to have to actually do it. Nothing is given. Lee might be motivated like nobody's business right now. He might be watching 20 hours of film every week. I have no idea. What I do know is that we're almost definitely going to need both of them next year if we want to achieve our goals of championships.

Um, okay. Shepard is an amazing runner, Jefferson CAN run. Huge difference. JL is statuesque. All three have completely different styles.

I think JL is actually a little more athletic than we think, but he's clearly the least athletic of the 3, and doesn't need to run much at all.

I agree. It will be interesting to see if Crowton can use that to our advantage. Though, I've never been a big fan of multiple QBs.
