You how I know you don't know how little the majority of these guys really make? I'll put my career earnings up against that of most journeymen pro athletes. ETA: I'll my last ten years earnings up against that of the total careers of most journeymen pro athletes.

Good job Michael.
And who gives a shite about taxes and what y'all made. This is a post about Michael Ford making a team right.

not bragging, but the guy sounds like a 9 year old, assuming that everyone that puts on a pro uniform and steps on the field is immediately, forever, in the Forbes 500

Just shut up. You tried to brag about how much you make yesterday on the OT vs a sitcom star and got shot down. No one gives a shite.
He is correct that if you have to brag you probably don't make shite.

in neither did I brag, I just pointed out the erroneous assumption that most of the folks on here seem to have that anyone they see on TV, or in the papers, not in the police blotters, is automaticlly uber wealthy

It sure seems like you are trying really hard to get people to ask you how much you make.

wouldn't tell even if asked, try like hell to keep that from the IRS congrats to Ford, unhighjack the unintended hijack

...another bad decision.
Ford should have transferred to a smaller school and put together a good year.

Fwiw, this is a very valid point.
Andrew Goudelock, who started in place of Kobe and Steve Nash, last night for the Lakers made less than $30,000 in the D-League this year. He said he was asking his girlfriend to help him pay bills earlier in the year.
I think practice squad players make less than 100K per year.
Back on topic, congrats to Ford. Hope he makes the 53 man roster.

Minimum in the NFL is around 400k for a rookie, with an increase each year of service. A guy playing 3 years would make 1.5 million making minimum.

subtract the agents cut, bling, cs for 2-3 youngn's, support for their baby mamas, new house for real mama, posse on the payroll, new wheels, new crib in what more than likely won't be in a reasonable col area, or a smart decision, numerous celebration parties, and always picking up the tab because you rollin' in it and, oh yeah, taxes, how much is left? pretty typical scenario

Well, that's some pretty good stereotyping thrown in there.
I've known a couple of guys who played less than 5 years in the NFL and MLB, all did fairly well for themselves. I doubt guys making minimum are paying an agent very much and not all these guys are worthless with money.
Stick on a roster for a few years and you should be in pretty good shape.

No one gives a frick about you. Congrats to Ford.

This does not include practice squad players. Their minimum is $88,000, but that is only if they are on the practice squad for all 17 weeks.
Then you have the guys who are signed to contracts in the summer but fail to make even the practice squad. Those guys make about $10,000 or so.
The vast majority of the guys we see as UDFAs will not even make the practice squad.

I took his statement about journeyman NFL players as actual NFL players, not practice squad.

I was at his house last night...spoke to him today and came away feeling good about his chances...
Posted on 4/28/13 at 11:08 pm to leesvilletiger
After I read his contract last night I was incorrect....it is a three year contract....which is better.....he signed with the Bears in my office around 10:00 last night.....It was a long day for both of us and you don't know how much I have fought for him! Say what you want but he is a stand up guy! I wish him nothing but the best and if there is a bump in the road I will be there again!
Posted on 4/28/13 at 11:16 pm to leesvilletiger
I also asked last night if would have done anything different....he told me "No if had not gone to LSU I would not be the man am today".......so he's a tiger through and through just pray I can help him go forward!.....which I think I can!

i thought it was a little higher for pratice squads ($5700/week; $96,000 for 17 weeks), but i'm probably wrong.

you're right, but for about 20 years now more late round picks and UDFA's have made a roster.
whether that's because of more roster turnover because of free agency, or teams having to off-set the highly paid players with some cost control type players...i don't know.
good luck to Ford. hope he makes the roster.
