What's everyone's take on this? Is he missing an opportunity to network and display his football IQ, or is he showing his dedication to rehab?

Can't imagine his rehab will really suffer from a few days in Mobile.

From the Advocate:

quote:

QB Zach Mettenberger and safety Craig Loston were both invited to the Senior Bowl, team spokesman Michael Bonnette said. Loston will complete in the Jan. 25 all-star game in Mobile. Mettenberger, who suffered a season-ending injury against Arkansas, will not go to the Senior Bowl to participate in activities outside of the game, Bonnette said. He will instead spend it rehabbing.

Sorry if Germans, searched.

Let me guess, you have never played sports and if you have you have never had a serious injury.

he wouldn't be able to play if he went. all he'd gain would be talking to scouts, which he'll have plenty of time to do at the combine, pro day, etc. and yes, missing a few days of rehab right after surgery would be stupid

My sadness over Mett's injury had more to do with this than missing him for one more game. Mett will now miss out on many of the pre-draft activities, and I really hope it doesn't hurt his draft stock.

Not all seniors go to the senior bowl so I don't think it will hurt him. I'm not sure what his rehab schedule is but if he can somehow be ready for the combine, that is all that matters.

it's the fricking senior bowl. nobody gives a shite about that.

I find it hard to believe he couldn't find a facility in the near area to conduct some of his early term rehab. Or he could just attend an event or two and be in/out in a day or less.

A big opportunity to miss.

I think he'll be able to do some passing at the combine (show off that cannon), and interviews, but other than that, he's just rehabing.

yeah, those were my exact feelings as well. was really sad seeing how far he'd come from last year only to get hurt late in the season, which could result in him not being able to show scouts what he can do

it's only a big opportunity to miss if you're a guy who scouts haven't seen much of or you're a guy who may not be drafted. for a guy like mett who has plenty of game film and has played for a national audience almost every game, it's not going to mean anything

have you ever rehabbed a injury? I think it is a big deal to miss rehab days when you are trying to get back to a nfl level ability.

Stop it, you have no clue about rehabbing a injury like that. Every day you spend getting treatment is vital. Him being able to perform at Pro days and the combine are way more critical than any Senior Bowl practices where he can't even drop back to throw.

i'm skeptical he's able to do anything but interviews at the combine. he tore his ACL and MCL. The combine is February 18-25. It would be very optimistic he'll be ready to resume any sort of football activities just a few months after suffering the injury he did, and quite frankly wouldn't be worth the potential risk

Its more then that. Its the travel, its his doctor and therapist too.

No, not really.

Its not like he played a Wyoming Jr. College. There is plenty of film on him, and i'm sure all the NFL teams have Les Miles And Coach Cam's phone number.

What can he show them, how to limp? Your question is major stupid given his condition at the moment.

The Senior Bowl has a ton of scouts, agents, etc. It would be his opportunity to show off his IQ, his personality, etc. Given his attitude towards the media (I don't fault him here) he has not had a chance to make that kind of impression yet.

His film thus far (extensive) will be his only asset physically before the draft (I seriously doubt any drills/etc for the combine or his pro day).

I'm sure his draft stock would shoot straight up when the scouts see him hobbling around on crutches.

It would be different if this was his only opportunity before the draft, but it's not. He'll have several chances later to meet with people.

It's not a big deal.
