Okay, I know there is a stat guru on TD that can research this.....How many games has Matty Ott saved in the pre SEC portion of the schedule? How many of his saves have been during the SEC regular season schedule and SEC tournament and how many of his saves have been in post season regional and and CWS play.....just askin

That sounds like the perfect research project for a guy I know named "LineDrive."

Game-by-game results for...
2009
2010
2011

Go at it, hoss.

I just finished the 2009 season. Only 3 of his 16 saves were in midweek games. So 13/16 of his saves in 2009 were against quality opponents and more meaningful games. Unfortunately, can't say the same for 2010 and so far in 2011.

I don't think we can find stats that readily available on "blown saves" over his career. I know he had one on Friday night. May have set the tone for the rest of the weekend. Had we won the Friday night opener, that may have lead to another win on Saturday or Sunday...thanks DBG

So you're saying we were swept because Ott blew a save Friday night?

well, remember in 2009 he didnt get very many opportunities early in the season. Lou Coleman was still being used to close games, he really became the full-time closer right before SEC play started

and he wasnt doing bad in 2010 until that Bama game that he pitched 7 innings..after that he just fell apart

yes, we would not have been swept. We would have won Friday's game if he gets a save. Is that hard to figure?

So what did Ott's blown save have to do with untimely hitting Saturday or shitty pitching Sunday?

Glad he got the record, now lets move him to set-up man where he belongs. The Ice mystic is gone and won't be returning this season.

Every pitch he throws looks like batting practice.

I would like to see Eades as a closer. All of you that think Ott was so great don't remember Bert coming in and saving games last year. I think Ott would be a great set up guy. Not saying he is done, but we had Bert and then Ott game in. Why can't Eades do the same?

I think after the one batter Matty faced yesterday PM will make some changes. I expect to see a different line up against ULL and Matty may get some time off to clear his head. However, this team NEEDS Ott to get his shite together. He's a veteran that's pitched in some big games.

I am going to take this thread in a different route.

Is Ott pitching well ..no

When did he start pitching poorly?

Remember back to last year when the ptiching staff as a whole was struggling and everyone on the rant wanted Ott to be moved to a starting role. Damn near every arse clown on this board wanted this.

Ott pitches 7 innings giving up 2 runs as we beat Bama in extra innings. Up until this point Ott has 11 saves on the year. He gets the win in this game.

The next week Florida is drilling our pitching so the rant gets their wish and CPM starts Ott. He goes 3.2 innings and give up 9 earned runs on 8 hits in a loss.

He nexts pitches against Vandy 2 innings giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits. Blowing a save but getting the win because we win it late.

He does not have a save the rest of the season.

I may be wrong but I am going to say that whatever has happened to Matty those two games were the turning point.

Essentially what I am trying to say is Fridays loss is the Rants fault for making Matty a starter.

See what I did there.

Not ready to call Ott Mark Wolhers yet, but he has lost his mojo for sure.
