I don't understand. I think he's a good coach and I support him, but when he brings in a pitcher that strikes out the side then takes him out, I'm like whaaaaaat??? He did this same thing alot last year. Then when a pitcher does poorly he leaves him in too long. If a pitcher does great, He gets another shot, right? How do you know the next guy, coming in cold is going to do as well? Why take the chance? To get guys innings? I thought it was about winning. Guy strikes out the side and he's taken out? Someone explain. I think he coaches too much, instead of just letting them play.

We did pretty good, but you don't understand my post? Like I said I support CPM, but you don't take a pitcher out that just struck out the side. How do you think the pitcher feels? Why do you change pitchers every inning after the starter leaves? Does he have a rule that relievers only get one inning. This happens alot. As well as we did last year. We could be even better. If a pitcher strikes out the side, you take him out and then lose as a result. Not smart. Not smart.

There's one thing that PM is consistent about........sucking at bullpen management.

Last week, Newman did the same thing. Cruised through his first 3 batters. Came out the next inning and absolutely stunk on the mound. Mainieri probably had that in his mind when he pulled Newman.

It could be situational, It might be set that certain relievers pitch one inning for now since its early

All of my instincts tell me that CPM is wrong for LSU. But I just sit here quietly and take it.

I agree with your statements during SEC play in past seasons But right now he is trying to give everyone experience (especially new guys) as preparation for conference play. He is doing the same thing with position players.

I'd be fine with it if he only did this shite during the beginning of the season, but he does this all season long. Tweaking the lineups and making nonsensical pitching changes all because of "gut" feelings.

His gut has got him in the College Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame, the National Coach of the Year four times, the SEC Coach of the Year two times, the SEC 3 times in his 9 years at LSU, the SEC tournament 5 times in those 9 years, the College World Series and over 1275 wins.

Yeah, that's what everybody has been saying - he just isn't a good coach. Anybody that has ever witnessed LSU lose a baseball game can vouch for that.

"" the above post is total sarcasm aimed at frustrated LSU fans six games into the season ""

Just lost two games for LSU that was because of his decision making skills.

Can we not discuss criticism here, or is this board simply a glory hole for PM?

You are totally free to criticize, but with a resume like that, I think he probably knows a little more about coaching college baseball than you.

In the case of Riley Smith, CPM knows we need him as the Sunday starter. He's trying to knock the rust off with some relief appearances. In this case the need to bring Smith along outweighs the need to win a meaningless game.

I question some of his decisions myself but his track record is solid. It also seems like a lot of people on this board think we always have the next big coach begging for us to hire him. We all want championships but having a Bama-like run is a once or twice a century thing. Sometimes you have to just be proud of having a program that is still the envy of many.

CPM has been quoted several times that before each game, he & Coach Dunn sit down & plot out the plan for pitching, who they want to get in, how many pitches, etc. And as far as I know, Coach Dunn is recognized as one of the best pitching coaches in the college game. Point being, CPM does not coach by the seat of his pants, each step in a game is thought out ahead of time and when the game situations dictate, he & Coach Dunn stick to their game plan. We do not see any pitchers' bull pen sessions during the week: they both study those sessions like an football coach studies practice films & results. He one the regular league season last year in the toughest baseball conference in the country last yr. And has done so numerous times. How many times has his teams won the league tourney in Hoover? To call him a poor coach is beyond belief.

This may be the best, most logical LSU baseball post I've ever seen on the Rant.

Another logical, well-thought out and knowledgeable LSU baseball post on the Rant!

Have I entered the Rant's version of Bizzarro World?!

Kudos, Keltic Tiger!
